Kris, hope you are feeling better.


OK- I'm feeling a bit foolish now. Finally got a good look at the new-to-me FD with the wheel and disc removed.

Thoroughly cleaned the wheel side with some brake cleaner and slightly tilted the bike to the left to recreate the situation where it seemed to leak. I had seen the greatest number of oil drops when I parked it on the side stand, which I rarely do.

It isn't the output seal that is leaking! One of the 8 bolts that holds the FD together was slightly loose. #7 plus the #8 washer. I could see some gear oil seeping out around the bolt head.



Tightened that bolt and checked the other 7. Again, feeling a bit foolish but FIXED!

Took it for a quick ride- twisties and highway @ 75mph yesterday- it was a hot day, so it was a good test. No leak. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Glad you got it together John!

Can you post contact info for Henderson Machine? May send them the shaft off the R bike during our cold winter, you know when it gets down to 40.

Glad to hear the bike is back on the road & running well, John! My back is better & there's good news & bad news about my K11. Good news is, the FD seal seems to have stopped leaking (yes, there is oil in it. I suspect the PO overfilled it when he did fluids last fall, although nothing came out of the vent) but the rear brake hose from the hard line to the caliper sprung a leak. Hopefully the part is in soon enough for me to get it replaced before next Friday as I was planning to take my son moto camping to the Unadilla MX nationals in the bike.

You'll probably want to replace all the flexible brake lines - if that hasn't been done yet.

Agreed & thank you. The fronts were replaced recently according to service records & I plan to replace all the hoses with ss braided lines this winter.

Hi All,

I'm in the situation where my FRONT Uni Joint has gone, i've pulled off the rear diff and when I put a torch into the swing arm I can see needle roller bearings sitting inside on the bottom, my question is, to get the shaft out is there something else that I need to do or unclip as I thought it would just slide out, but it is proving difficult?
Here in Australia we have Munich Motorcycles and they make an aftermarket uni joint that apparently is heaps stronger than OEM, they tell me in 19 years, not one shaft has failed that has their uni fitted.

Appreciate how to get the remainder out?
