Hi
Today I took my 1991 K100 RS 16V on a spirited ride through some twisties. About an hour in something happened to second gear when I was pushing hard at about 8000 revs. It felt like I had briefly pulled and dumped the clutch. First and third remained fine. Later I had the same slipping issue in second again under gentle acceleration at maybe 3000 revs.
A member of motobrick just had a very similar issue and ended up swapping his tranny out. Does any one know if a k1100 RS tranny fits my bike? I found one from a 1993 bike for $120 on ebay.
I would appreciate any advice,
Thanks _________________ 1991 K100RS with K1100 RS fairing

Hi
Thanks for that. It is a bit confusing because my K100 is a 16v and so a paralever whereas most are 2v and monolever. It appears to be a matter of if the tangs to mount the paralever are on the tranny or not.
I found three different trannys on ebay and as far as I can see only the k1100 RS one has said tangs. _________________ 1991 K100RS with K1100 RS fairing

The other question is if the guts are the same, in which case I could keep my housing and just swap the bits inside from the new one into mine. _________________ 1991 K100RS with K1100 RS fairing

I guess you could check the fiche to see if the inner workings are interchangeable. _________________ Jim

Ok it turns out that what I need is second gear undercut. That means that the dogs have become worn and end up pushing 2nd gear apart under load. The solution is to cut them back with a lathe tso they interlock nicely again.
I am hoping this is something I can get done here so I am going to look for a good metal shop and see if my spanish is up to explaining the problem! _________________ 1991 K100RS with K1100 RS fairing
