Hi guys,
I just wanted ask for some help. I've been reading up all over the net on various BMW K bike forums and about two weeks ago came across a really nicely written article by a forum user on motor oils (I got to it through an external link via another article from a forum). Which of course I'd like to read again, but now can't find. Rolling Eyes
The main aim of the article was the comparison of additives present in various brand name motor oils that people use in their Kbikes (Mobil1, BMW, etc).
It was obviously written by someone with a scientific background and was written as you would a scientific article for publication in a journal. It included several tests done on various oils and their additives, comparing graphs and lots of other neat stuff.

Does anybody now in which nook and cranny this article is hiding?

I forgot to bookmark the sucker and now its driving me crazy.
...
Thanks for the help guys...

Drive safe.

This one?

http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4375&highlight=oil+comparison

You might want to use the search feature at the top of the page.

To get to that link I input the following into the search (one word, a space, the capitalized word AND, a space, the second word) like this:

oil AND comparison

Hi SugarHillCTD,
thanks for the repy but unfortunately thats not the one...the article im looking for was hosted "out side" the forum(s) on an external site. I've tried every combination that I can think of for the search but without any luck.

...But if i DO find it...I'll repost Smile

Dixie,

Glad you found that info. However, I'd like to point out that was written 18 years ago. I'm fairly certain oil formulations have gone through many changes since then (maybe Ernie will enlighten us).

I don't know how much of the information in that article still applies to the oil we buy today.

I think probably any good oil of the proper weight is fine in our bikes. Changing oil regularly is probably as important as using the proper oil.

I'm quite sure you're right.
It was just one of those moments where I wished I'd bookmarked the page and it bothered me until I found it again Smile

Bob is the Oil Guy is a popular reference to all things oil. I found him through the Porsche club, but have seen him linked and referenced in just about every forum I belong to. A quick search:

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hello all...

Well as usual "N4.." beat me to it..! I base my current oil-info on Bob the Oil Guy and the link that N4 copied is exactly the right one. Oil derivation ( ie: refined vs synthetic ) and the additives employed and specified be engine manufactures changes as often as the weather. Bob however is technically on target and current ALL THE TIME !! Whether you are in USA, DE, CZ, UK, AU, CN or wherever....BOB is your BEST SOURCE of accurate and applicable oil-use information. Give him a try .....

Best to all and "Ride Safe" aways.....// Ernie in NH

***: Wont be long until HMSP-X now !! Anybody ready ???
