Hi
I am in the process of bringing a somewhat sad 1991 K100RS 4v ABS back to a good state of health. I live in Costa Rica and the bike has been here for 13 years without ever seeing any kind if mechanic worth the name.
When I got the bike it hadn't been ridden for a couple of years but did start after minimal effort.
It had major leaks in both seals so I started the process of fixing them. Doing that revealed all sorts of horrors on the body work which turned out to be basically junk. i decided to change it all and in my search for replacement parts came across an entire k1100 RS fairing in great condition for a great price.
I am nearly ready to install the fairing - I have been changing hoses, fixing brakes, replacing the loom and various other tasks first.
It looks like there are a couple of fairing points missing on my K100 that he 1100 needs. I have posted a couple of photos.
Basically this is all a long winded way of introducing myself and asking for some help getting the fairing installed.

First of all- WELCOME!
I've some knowledge here. My previous bike was a '93 K1100RS and now ride a '92 K100RS. Check the images below.
These came from the MaxBMW website. http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/PartsFiche.aspx
The biggest difference is the attachment points for the fairing lower.
The two K100RS fiche images:
Three images for the K1100RS
I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more help. Flying Duck may be along to add some info. He knows both models very well.

Hi
Yeah that does help, thanks. I have already ordered the belly pan bracket and found the right place to locate the left hand fairing mounting bracket on the engine. However I am still stuck on the mounting point for the rhs on the engine. The hole I think it is (see pictures) is tapped. I am not sure if it was supposed to be tapped or whether the PO did something... The other side was open and not an issue. Before I take an extractor set to the plug I just want to make sure it is the correct place to install the mounting bracket.
Thanks _________________ 1991 K100RS with K1100 RS fairing

Here's a shot of that mount point on my '94 RS:

Sorry about the huge size; just being lazy.
Looks like you are looking at the correct spot for the mount.
Good luck. I am incidentally considering swapping the older RS mid fairings on for a possible sidecar setup, so these brackets have been on my mind as well.
**Edited to add: Welcome to the forum. That is a sharp looking RS.** _________________ Niemand

Easy peasy.
It should "bolt right up."
I put a K1100RS fairing on a K75 motor and frame. The only issue for that was that since the K75 is "missing" a cylinder the front part of the frame and the K75 radiator are at a different angle so I had to deal with that. Shouldn't be an issue on a four cylinder K though.
Here's my K75 Frankenbrick:

Ok great, I will try and extract the lug this weekend. Now I know it is the right place I feel more confident having a go at it.
Thanks very much _________________ 1991 K100RS with K1100 RS fairing

I started to remove the plug and it became clear the hole had never been tapped. Next step is to buy a tap and die set and see if I can put the thread in the hole. That means a couple of weeks wait because things like tap and die sets are very very expensive here and generally terrible quality, back to Amazon for me! _________________ 1991 K100RS with K1100 RS fairing

Well I got the tap and die set and made the hole no problem.
I have since dry fitted the fairing and it looks pretty good,
the only issue I see, to have is that the top mounts (the ones connected to the radiator) seem just a little too far back. The holes are misaligned by maybe 1/2 an inch.
I am hoping a couple more attempts at mounting it and I will have it sorted.
I did have one question though, when I ordered the bracket for the engine spoiler there was another smaller bracket in the fiche on MaxBMW so I ordered it as well - now I have it I can't see where it goes. Can anyone tell me?

Congrats on the progress.
The shape of your lower bracket for your mid-fairing differs from mine as posted previously. That could be causing the misalignment.
Also, that little metal chunk looks to be the coupling from the bracket for the belly pan, which I believe allows some adjustment to be made.
On right of lower bracket as seen here:

Looks great, man. Thanks for the data-point on the untapped older block. That might save someone else some confusion later.
Out of curiosity, were you able to proceed with using that slightly different mounting bracket or did you have to modify it or get a new one? I'm still wondering how interchangeable all that hardware is for my own distant plans. _________________ Niemand

Everything is standard, apart from tapping the hole I did't have to do any modification or fabrication. All of the center bits from my K100RS fairings slotted right in, that includes knee pads, gauges, everything.
