Hi all. Bike didn't't sell so decided to keep her and ride it. Ridden 1200 miles now and like the bike. Call it my monster moped.Ride it everywhere. With daylight savings now riding home from work noticed top gauges have no illumination. Where are the gauge lights and how to replace if blown?

The bulbs are in the instrument pod. You have to remove the pod and take it apart to change the bulbs. You might as well put in LEDs while you have it apart - with the exception of the charge indicator. Leave a regular bulb in there (that one will likely never burn out anyway) - it's part of the exciter circuit that starts the alternator charging. You put an LED in there, it won't start charging until you hit about 2500 RPMs.

Be careful taking the old bulbs out - sometimes the copper circuit will pull loose - just push it back in place and put the bulb in.

I don't know if Flying Duck is still selling LED kits or not.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check the pod out this weekend. Are the bulbs generic(Sylvania) I can get at auto parts store or are they special order?

I don't know if they are generally available at the parts store...but I just bought them from a BMW shop...amazingly cheap for them. But some had to be ordered.

I don't know of any issues with aftermarket dash bulbs - just watch the wattage.

Generally, you want to use bulbs from the Fatherland - they seem to work better than other imports. I'd buy BMW bulbs if I wasn't using LEDs.

I've never had an imported tail light bulb work properly - that bulb is part of the Bulb Monitoring Unit (BMU) - if I remember correctly. A small current has to pass through it to turn off the light on the dash.

superbrightleds.com wrote me that to identify which LEDs would work in my bike I'd need to send them a picture and/or a number off the bulb(s).

My green backlight bulbs are unnumbered but look exactly like the white ones in the idiot light plugs which are labelled 194.
