Hello, I recently purchased a 1993 K1100rs for 3400. I am pleased! The bike feels like it could go all day long comfortably. I put Pilot 3's on it. changed the fluids, and have been riding. I have noticed that the rear disk is not wearing properly. The outside is not connecting with the pad and the inside is shiny. The front disks are cool within minutes after a ride and the rear is hot. Also, the front fork seal is weeping. It is so minor that I wonder if I can ignore it for a bit. I also have a faulty ABS brain. I want to replace it. Any advice on getting a good and proper one? Are they interchangeable amongst the years? Also, is it plug and play? Any special concerns with taking the old out and putting the new in? The last thing... I want to install a switched usb port. I have one plugged into the power outlet but have been advised that the port itself draws power? Can anyone advise me as to how to fin a proper switched location to install. Thank you in advance and great to have found these boards. Ill post a photo soon. It's a pretty bike. Very Happy

Welcome..

Rear disk: sounds like the caliper pistons are stuck. The inner one is dragging and the outer one won't move to touch the rotor. You are probably due to replace the seals in the caliper. If you want to do the job yourself, you can get the seal kit from Motobins.

You could possibly clean the weeping fork seal. You need something thin and flexible to slide down in-between the fork and the seal to "wipe" the seal face clear. Some have used old 35mm film.

Are you sure that the ABS is bad. If you are certain that is is toast, it can be repaired now, with better reliability than trying to buy a used one.

The '93 was the last year of ABS1. Not interchangeable with the newer ABS2.

The powerlet outlet could be re-wired to a switched power lead if that is what you are thinking.

WELCOME!

Where are you located?

I had a '93 K-RS and now a '92 K100RS4V, so I am very familiar with your model.

Scott was spot-on with your braking problem.

Let's see your K bike.

John

I don't know about sending the ABS off to Japan.

ModuleMaster should be able to deal with it - they're in Idaho.

Everything I have seen has the guy in Japan as the best on these controllers. Last time I looked it was $150 including shipping.

I am so pleased. Much appreciated help. I am not that mechanical but think I will attempt a rebuild of the caliper. Cant be too hard right? Regarding the ABS brain, I looked at the site in Japan and that guy looks like a real ABS whisperer. At this point I do not have the skill to perform all the tests that he requires in order to get the fault code. Is there a place that gets into a blow by blow instructional on testing the Brain? BTW I am in Albany NY. And, the only photo I have of her is on the Uhaul trailer the day I picked her up... in Manchester NH. So I'll post something soon for you all to see. Also thanks for that fork seal cleaning tip. I'll give it a try.

I can suggest reading this post:

It's pretty in depth.
