that stay in your heart

For me, it was my Moto Guzzi Sport Corsa 1100.

It hated being woken up, and took ages to get into it's stride, but it was utterly reliable, cheap to run and full of character.

I sold it because it was like sitting on an ironing board holding onto a broomstick.

Despite that, I regret selling it terribly.

Sad

Arrrrrrgh! That bike is gorgeous.

The very first bike that got me interested in motorcycles was a mid-seventies LeMans. I saw it at a small show. I have never ridden one but Guzzis have always looked very special.

Me? Nothing that exotic, but I wish I had never sold the '82 Honda 900 Supersport. Fast, comfortable, stone reliable.

Then you might like another Guzzi I owned.
This was a modern V7 Racer 750.
Lovely bike to ride, despite it's lowly 50bhp.
The quarter fairing was an extra I ordered in especially from an Stucci in Italy.
I did have a few problems with this one though, compounded by terrible dealer back up, resulting in me letting it go.
Such a shame, it was a nice really.

There are two I wish I had kept. An 82 CB450t Hawk and an 85 K100.

A '1950 Cushman scooter, my first bike with a motor. More or less. It was a deathtrap but I loved it and learned a lot keeping it going.

My first bike was a '49 Triumph Thunderbird. A Franken bike because it had parts from other years on it. It was more of a mechanic's college than a bike to ride but I loved it.

My '93 Goldwing was near to my heart because it was such a great road bike. I rode it for 125,000 miles and it never let me down. Coast to coast it carried me faithfully and many great road trips in fair and foul weather. I sold it at 175,000 miles and it was still running like new. The new owner has taken it well up over 200,000 miles now. Old age knees was the determining factor, the big Wing was getting too heavy.

My current two, the BMW C650GT and the K1100LT are my current and probably last bikes. Actually I think when the legs bad enough with arthritis the 650GT will be my last bike. But until then I'm really enjoying the LT, it's one of the best handling bike's I've owned.

What were we thinking back in the 80's bolting those hideous fairings onto our bikes.
That Vetter is one of the better looking one's though.
I had a Honda 250N which I fitted a Rickman Tempest fairing too, and a CX500 with a Rickman Polaris.
I look at old photo's now and cringe.

1982 Honda XL250R (Enduro)
First bike I bought with my own money.
Rode it all over Orange County in Southern California from 1982 - 1984.
What a great little machine.
The few that have survived the thrashing we all gave them are overpriced beyond reason.

Put a barnett clutch in that thing in my room in the barracks at Marine Corps base I called home...

I never had a faired bike until I bought my first Goldwing in '03. It didn't take long for me to realize the value of a windshield though. I had one on my Cushman and the Triumph. Riding on the desert without a face shield or windscreen definitely showed me the value of a windshield. Back in the late 50s most people didn't cruise at 70+mph as we do now so the need is even greater. A couple of hours at speed on a naked bike with all that wind pressure on your helmet and chest adds a lot of fatigue.

Every now and then I miss the old '80 Suzuki GS550E I had for about 11 years. That was a simple sweet little ride that served me well, both in the mountains in western NC and commuting in Seattle. The K11RS is such a better fit for me personally, however, so I don't think I'd be happy if I picked up another little GS again. Nostalgia is a tough itch not to scratch at times though.

I have been into Guzzis for years .. however, wish I still had the Manx / Goldie. Ex. John Tickle race bike which I put on the road.

My two "late" Guzzis - 1100 Inj Sport masquerading as a Centauro, and a real Centy.

And finally - my Cafe Racered Lemon ............. a Danish collector made me an offer I couldn't refuse before it was even finished ! You might notice an overabundance of Red ? Bike was called "Simply Red". I did relent and fitted stainless pipes and Contis before he took delivery !

Being Italian, I'm happy to read that our bikes are popular in the US.

My first bike and "training ship" was, in 1994, just a Guzzi V35 (350 cc displacement) who had had three other owners before me. After a year and a half I had to disposal it because of its poor condition and high maintenance costs. No photo.

In 1996 I bought a Cagiva River, 600cc 34HP single-cylinder almost unknown in Italy (and totally unknown out-of Italy) with whom I traveled for five years and 75,000 kilometers before someone stoles it!

Then I bought in 2001 a Honda NT650V "Deauville" I held for thirteen years and 166,000 kilometers (up to 100.000 miles!), until last May when it had to be scrapped because a frame break, and also I found my current K1100.
