Hi everybody.
It is common knowledge (and a plethora of google hits) on changing the K1100LT rear wheel (3.00x17) for the K1100RS rear wheel (4.50 x 1Cool.

The trouble is I have not been able to find anything on swapping the K1100LT front wheel (2.50 x 1Cool for the K1100RS front wheel (3.50 x 17).

Is it a good idea?

The reason I ask is that I am being given a pair of wheels off a K1100RS, and while I will definitely swap the rear on my K1100LT, I am slow to swap out the front, without proof (if t'internet can ever be called proof Very Happy ) that it improves anything. Or alternatively that is is a bad idea/not possible/difficult.

All input gratefully accepted.

I went so far as to purchase a RS rim, but then decided to not do it, (it was painted black) as I figured it wouldn't look as good...but? Yes its been done, and I think nearly just a swap out, although your LT fender may not 'fit' as close?....it will lower the bikes clearance a tad I think.

Somebody in England did it, and said it was a good thing for handling, etc. as I recall...said turn-in would increase, (don't really know what that is).

If you have the rim and tire, try it, and keep the original if is doesn't work out? good luck!

That would be me I think ............... I did that swap as a half way house to fitting K1200S 5 spokes back and front.

Yes handling was sharper due to better "turn in" - I also raised the fork stanchions by 20mm in the yokes [ triple trees ].

The K1200S conversion will be completed [ as will the project ! Rolling Eyes ] ready for next year's riding. I'll have to reset the front enf geometery then due to new tyre combo - I'll also refit my 25mm shorter RAM shocker initially to set a baseline.

I have RS wheels front and back on my LT.
Only thing I found is the spacers are different between the LT and RS front wheels. Or at least one of them is and you need RS ones to completely cover the bearings. No idea why they are different...
I also used an RS rear half for the front mudguard for ease of access.

The only drawback to using an RS rear wheel is that some tire companies are starting to bring out their newest rubber only in 17" diameters.

I now have a Michelin PR4 on the front and a PR3 on the rear- no 18" PR4 is available (at least that I can find)

Different bearing at one side.

Thanks guys for the responses. They are very helpful.

Looks like it is worth changing both. Hopefully the guy I am getting them from has the spacers, otherwise it is a call to motoworks.

Anyone have a spare RS front wheel for sale? It looks like Mad Brick Rider might have an extra one (and I'm planning on painting it black anyway, so that works). If so, I'd be interested in buying. Or, I'd also consider and LT wheel if anyone has one of those for sale. Thanks!

But I really like my LT with stock front wheel/tire and RS rear. JMHO.

I think an RS front would make turn-in less responsive.

I have just bought an RS front wheel. The problem I have is that The local shops dont keep 18" tyres in stock. Having the 17" will give more options to use. Good info on the thread, even if it is a couple of years old.

I'm about to do RS front and rear on an LT I'm reviving.

Does it make sense to get rid of the spacers (part 46522312703) between the center stand and transmission to make it easier to get the bike on the center stand?

I know that on my '95 LT, I put a 150/70 on the stock rear rim and I found it much easier to center stand it with the spacers removed/relocated.
I took the spacer from between the stand and the transmission and placed it between the bolt head and the stand so I can use the same length bolts.

Good idea. From the parts catalog it looks like the LT with spacer bushings uses M10x50 bolts while non-spacered center stand mounts use M10x40 bolts.

I think I'll try going without spacers when I put RS wheels on the LT next month and report back.
