Hi folks. It's been a long time since I've posted here. I'm close to being able to take on a project I've been wanting to for a long time. Nothing crazy, but, I want to modify/customize a 4v K100RS or K1100RS to a standard style bike. Just something I've always wanted to do. Anyway, my question to everyone is, what are the PROS to converting an 1100RS instead of a 4V K100RS? The only major differences that I can think of is the additional 100 cc's and the ABS II on the 1100 model. Other than that, as far as I know, they're essentially the same. Is ABS II a significant improvement over ABS I?
Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Thomas Adamo |

Well, just a couple of differences that I know of...
the 4V100's and '93 1100's have an ignition amplifier that can give you some headaches as it is sensitive to heat and the heat-sink paste is often an overlooked maintenance item. The part was eliminated after the '93 model year 1100's.
The '93 1100's should also have ABS1, unless it would happen to be a very late '93 production then it could possibly be a ABS2.
There was 1 production year of the 4v100 that has been claimed to have a little better cam profile that BMW had since mellowed out a bit. I'm thinking it was the '85 but Drake knows better than I on that.
Not sure what year the change was made, early '90's BMW changed from the L-jetronic fuel injection/ignition control to the Motronic system. _________________ Ride safe.

The first K100 with 4 valves/cylinder was the K1 which came in -89.

L-jetronic is used on the 2V models, Motronic on the 4V models. |

My previous BMW was a '93 K1100RS. (ABS I)
I currently have a '92 K100RS4V
Scott and Inge mentioned the notable differences.
I thought that the K100 would feel slightly cooler due to the abbreviated fairing, but NO. Otherwise the 2 bikes are very similar.
As far as later K1100 ABS II, I will let others input their thoughts- I have no experience there. _________________ John & Cathy
