HI All,
So its been about 6 weeks since I bought my first K1100. The guy I bought it from is a good honest bloke and I have paperwork going back almost to when the bike was new. I have previous owner details and its been well looked after. I have stripped it down and have noticed that most of the engine number is scratched off. The last 4 digits remain and sure enough they match the last 4 digits on the paperwork. It looks intentional but I cant imagine why for the life of me they would only scratch half of it...are the last 4 digits common or is there very little chance of them matching to another engine? Can anyone confirm what the number is made up of? If its legit I will probably get them re stamped if I can...not sure what the legal process is for that here in Aus.
I should have checked before I rode it home...laziness and absent mindedness on my part.

thanks

Copied from BMBikes..............
A K Series engine number will look something like this: 104EA 1799 2032 - the first two digits refer to the engine capacity (1000cc); the third digit shows the number of cylinders; EA is some reference to a Federal Emission Code; sixth & seventh digits are the production week number (week 17); eighth & ninth digits are the year of manufacture (1999); the final four digits are the production number on that weeks Production.

Thanks for that...so it looks like I have the original engine as the last four digits are not common. I still cant figure why any one would scratch them...weird.

cheers
