Gidday Folks,
So I purchased from Germany via Fleebay a top box in the "teal green" colour to match my bike last month and it was in near new condition for 220.00 dollars delivered to Australia, Bargain!!
My question is in regards to the pillion back rest on the box itself as mine came without one, plus my teenage daughter is showing some interest in riding on the bike as a pillion and I want to make it comfy for her.
Are the backrests available to purchase anywhere? best price and who?
What about a removable home made backrest, any ideas?
Does anyone have a 2nd hand one available?
Many thanks and any info would be great. _________________ Cheers Grant

I would recommend you commission someone in the automotive upholstery business to make one. The OEM unit is about as comfortable as the seat, therefore not worth the cost of shipping across the street
Surely you've done some brilliant sign work for someone with the necessary skills...
My wife concurs.

Gidday Bill,
Always great to get a reply from you mate, so thanks heaps once again.
Just wasn't to sure about the OEM unit and its "comfort level" as I have not sat up on the back of another LT and tired one out before.
Yep I know of a good auto upholstery bloke that has used my services a good few years ago so I will go and track him down.
Hope is well with you and the family and that the bikes are getting a few miles racked up on them with your summer weather.
Is cold, wet and very crappy damp weather here in the southern areas of Australia as I type this so there is a good amount of shed time for odd jobs being done on the bike and also the old Chevy.
All the best once again and keep it upright _________________ Cheers Grant

I have a mix on my top cases.
The lower back support is the stock BMW hard rubber, but the pad on the lid(no speakers btw) is much softer and made by Corbin.
Here's a pic.

+1
The Russel seat,(the bike in the backgound) is a much more comfy seat for long ride than the Corbin(bike in the foreground with topcase).
But that's just according to my butt-o-meter. _________________ Ride safe.

Gidday Folks,
Many thanks for the info, interesting stuff!
I may just try one of the Air Hawk seat cushions first or something similar.
Any thoughts on them? _________________ Cheers Grant

There are other rubber backrests for top boxes that might work. The pad on my BMW C650GT's top box looks like it would adapt, with a bit of trimming, to the top front of the K1100LT box. Kinda pricey though. The original pad on the K1100's box, not the speaker pad but the backrest pad is really too low on the box to provide much comfort to the pillion rider. I know I've heard more than one complaint about that. My wife would rather ride on the back of the GT scooter.
I have a speaker housing/backrest off my first K1100 which could be cut down or used as is and would donate it to your cause but suspect the cost of shipping to OZ would be more than it's worth. _________________ Paul W.
