|
|
Hi All,
In doing the pump seals replacement I managed to strip the threads on two of the bolts holding the pump to the block. The bolt at eight o'clock and three o'clock looking from the front. Rarely am I ever hamfisted as a mechanic and yet I managed to do two in near succession.
When I removed the bolts each one had a slight quarter inch long section of the threads filled with the female side of the threads from the block, almost as if a Heli-coil insert has been pulled out in the process. I'm the second owner, taking possession with only 5,000 miles on the odometer, rather unlikely someone has been into the pump while with the first owner. Is it possible or likely the holes were buggered at the factory and were fixed rather than scrap the block? I'm trying to explain away my mistake.
For repairing the situation I'm looking into using a Heli-coil insert, unless someone can point me in different direction.
Thanks much, it's been difficult typing this with giant hamfists.

I'd say at this point you have nothing to lose trying a helicoil. _________________ Ride safe.

I believe those holes are fairly deep - you may be alright with another heli coil set a bit deeper - with longer bolts.
There are several different manufactures out there also - I have some called "Coil Sert" _________________ Dave Norris KOG 248
