was it really 4 years ago that the heavens fell upon me - with health issues, dog's health issues, various PC viruses, loss of workshop, and a general - "couldn't care less" attitude ?
Well I guess it was ..... that was then - this is now !
OK, all resolved - my health in control [ 8 pills a day - but who's counting ], dog has overcome a serious Cancer op, PC is clean [ at least for now ] - just a lock up garage to work in ...... but more importantly a new zest for life !
I passed my three score and ten in March - and time for a shake up, not much time left in the great scheme of things.
So. all three of my current projects [ 4 have been culled ] have been dragged back out and dusted off to see where we are.
The Kay is the closest to completion - cost and parts wise, so that's where my concentration lies.
Sometime [ !! ] in the past 3 years I decided to fit K1200S 5 spoke wheels in place of the 3 spokers that were my original plan.
That required a fork change and having a spindle / spacer made. I won't duplicate here as I have posted under the relevant wheel swap thread.
All the bracketery for the seat, cowl, side panels, rear light / number plate has been made and welded on and it's just down to final fettling and fitting of the panels prior to a strip down for paint and detailing.
Also in the interim, I've still been liaising with Realm over the RAM shox, progressive springs, leads, etc. and I now have a full set of goodies for my own project.
So - after 4 years of dismal nothingness, I'm back on it - and hopefully this year will see the project finally back on the road. _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |

Hi Beachcomber,
Glad to see you back in the fray!
I know the feeling, as I am off to Oxford later today to be put on a new drug for my CLL. It's amazing how your energy/will gets sapped as it creeps up on you.
Keep up the good work, I recommend the RAM equipment to many of the BMW Club members here in the UK when asked about replacement/upgrades.

Hi Beachcomber,
Welcome back. I enjoy reading your posts.
Also, the new rear shock you had helped me locate has worked out great.
Re: Your computer woes. I switched my personal computer to a Mac & have had zero computer problems since them. Yes they are more expensive but either you pay $ for a PC + your time to upkeep it, or you pay $$ for a Mac & spend your time on hobbies. That's my experience anyway.
Regards,

Ouch ............. hope it didn't cause any "moments" when it failed !!!!!!!!!
Yep, shox [ and springs ] are one of those items we tend to forget, especially when they decline over a period, we "adjust" to the failings. _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |

Mike, bet yours wasn't as rusty / dirty.
Terry, dead right. No moments, didn't know owt about it till I walked past the bike & it looked wrong.
As for deterioration, the difference is amazing, took a guess at ride height & five clicks. Will set it properly when SWMBO is festive for clambering on & off a few times. at least the bike is rideable again
Adrian rang me 20 seconds after it arrived, to tell me it was on it's way, despite being addressed to Northampton instead of Nottingham. IMHO the couriers only read the postcode, thank goodness.
Company is going to pay me to ride it around Notts doing jobs (BTW they don't know it) tomorrow, hope it doesn't rain. _________________ Regards Tim,

I'll smack his wrists when I see him ! Apart from getting the address wrong [ !! ] there should have been a basic set up sheet in the box [ ?? ]
However, you're in the ballpark with the dampening. It's the initial "sag" that needs setting - very simple and should only need re-adjusting when you go off touring with passenger and the kitchen sink.
For normal solo riding 3-4 is fine. Each click of adjustment DOES make a difference ! _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |

There was everything in the box including the set up sheet.
What I did was due to lack of time, not having SWMBO at home to set it properly for us both & I needed to ride to a place that is a B'stard to park on Wednesday.
Don't be too hard on Adrian, he was excellent, if a little dyslexic.
A little surprised that the spring isn't progressive, but there must be a good reason for that. _________________ Regards Tim,

OK - I'll forgive him this time - I spent AGES writing that set up sheet !!
There's a GOOD reason for non progressive spring. bear in mind we've been using derivitives of these shock for over 30 years - racing and road use [ albeit cars ]. NEVER had the need for progressive springs or remote reservoirs !
Without going into the detail - in simple terms, the dampening is relevant to the spring compression and is linked directly, giving a known response to any particular spring position. _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |

Front and rear discs sorted, and calipers having a nice long soak prior to dismantling and o/haul.
I'll be starting on the panels soon - fettling and prepping prior to paint. _________________ Beachcomber '93 K1100RS / '93 K1100LT and several K100's |

I got my top yokes back from the machine shop [ K100 ] - bored out to 41.7mm so I can fit the K1100 stanchions. That's the last of the hardware I need for the K1200S wheel conversion.
I also picked up this little gem ... originally I bought it for my Vanguard estate Hot Rod project, but it's cosmetically too small enough !!!!!!!
I'd always planned to do "something" with the spare low mileage [ 18K ] 1100 bottom end in my garage - that looks like a plan then ! I've got a good unleaded 8 valve head to drop on.
Once all the Mercedes injection squitter is junked, the unit is very compact and surprisingly light.
That project will probably coincide with the later fitting of a sidecar, when my knee finally gives out for solo riding.

I'd guess something related to air/fuel intake. Doesn't look like a turbo unit, but I'd bet that it's something similar..... _________________ Ride safe.

This view will be more familiar - think GMC Blower !!!
Eaton make a whole range of superchargers [ actually - air pump ] including units for Pontiac, Mustang, etc.
Very plentiful here in the UK - and despite all the squitter attached for different applications [ mine is for Merc C180 -M217 ] ] remove all that [ in my case everything from the blower outlet down ] and you end up with a very compact blower. I'll do just that this weekend and post up a pic of the "naked" blower.
I need the M112 fitted to the V8 Jags for my Vanguard Hot Rod project [ 3ltr Volvo V6 engine ], which is physically larger [ 20% ] and obviously has more pumping capacity.
I paid £100 [ $160 ? ] for this unit, from a low mileage back ended C180 - I'll be able to sell off the air control unit and parts for maybe £50 or so - = very cheap blower !
The ONLY issue is that this particular unit rotates in a clockwise direction - whereas the Kays rotate counter clockwise [ viewed from front ]. Not the end of the world, but it will require a jackshaft running to the back of the engine and the blower mounted "backwards".
The blower would sit on top of the block [ imagine all the airbox / injection gone ] and a large SU carb [ 1 3/4"/ 2" ] for fueling requirements. Drive would be taken from the end of the crankshaft.
This is not as efficient as a turbo - but much more in my comfort zone as I've used blown engines for the past 40 odd years - and of course - it will be different !.
