Have had my 1st bike, my '93LT for about three months now. Been doing LOTS of practicing and a few small local day trips. Finally decided when I saw the forecast, I had to ride to the beach. Now I live in Charlotte, NC so I know this is no iron man trip here, but it's my first. Rode there yesterday and back home today...around 500 miles total. I must admit, it was harder than I thought it would be....sore butt...cramping hands...sore back & neck. But I learned a lot for the next time and will be better prepared. Great time! Trip too short! Love the new shirt Michael!

Nice!

A slightly longer trip would be to Hungry Mother next year. We'd love to meet you.

Congrats on the first road trip, Weatherman. I know heading out those first few times can seem daunting, but it gets a lot smoother. One of my first real rides was from the Durham area to the mountains in WNC. Fun stuff...I still think about that ride.

You might want to try deliberately relaxing your grip a bit to see if that helps. It will probably reduce your hand fatigue issues and more than likely improve handling in general as well.

I put a pair of barbacks on my LT when I first bought it to help my riding posture, they might help.

Sounds like you might have the stock 'Comfort' seat, which is German slang for 'torture'. If so, you may want to take a look at replacing it - with almost anything- a bed of nails, perhaps.

I thought about trying to join you guys this year but thought I wasn't quite ready. Might just have to go for it next year! Would like to meet you guys too. Sounds like a great group.

I was actually much better with that on the way back. Learning more with each ride! Smile

Thanks. I will consider this. Anyone else have an opinion here?

Here are the best views I have of my current seat. It's new but yes, it is a BMW. I'm sure you have all talked about this a zillion times but I would love to hear and see what seat options some of you have found work best for you. Materials, cushioning, backrests? Thanks all!!

Hello from Gastonia NC.

For your next trip you could try a ride up to http://diannasshop.com/

Located a bit south of Asheville and talk seat mods with them. A friend had a

BMW GS seat restuffed there and was quite pleased. Makes a difference

when you are sitting on the m/c in front of them and pointing out what you

want done vs over the phone or on line.

Also I have some "K" bike spares left over if you ever need some.

Enjoy and I may see you on the road.

Russell Day Long is thought by many (myself included) to be the best LD riding seat on the market. That's what I have on my K1100LT.

https://www.day-long.com/

For even more comfort, use an Alaska Leather Buttpad.

http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com/servlet/StoreFront

Riding Posture:

Bend at the hips, not your back.

Arms should be loose.

Grip on bars should be relatively loose.

You can fine tune the angles of the handlebars and clutch/throttle perches to what works best for you.

Almost forgot: real cruise control.

Aside from not having to control the throttle, it keeps you from having to watch the speedo all of the time which reduces mental fatique and also gives you more time to maintain situational awareness in order to avoid potential hazards.

Definitely!

I followed Drake's great install instructions and it works just as advertised.

BTW, thanks Drake!

Great advice as always from you Duck! Going for the buttpad. A new Russell may be a bit out of reach for me right now but they sure look sweet.

I LOVE the sound of having real cruise like this. I only glanced through the install but it looked to be a little above my current abilities. I do learn well though so I'll look it over more closely for sure to see if I can pull it off. I also have a good friend here that would likely be able to help me a lot. In the meantime I got a kuryakyn universal throttle boss to relieve hand stress. I hope to do this ultimate upgrade someday. Thanks for this!

Do some periodic Googling on group buys. Usually somebody from some MC forum will set one up every year or so. I got in on one a couple of years ago - 20% off if they do it in the winter low season. Mine came out to a total with shipping of about $375 IIRC - worth every penny if you want to do serious LD riding.

My grips are just a bit higher than yours. Might want to give it a try.

Gidday Weatherman,

Nice bike, love the colour but I wonder why Smile ??

This is mine in Oz. 10th month 1993 (155,000kms)

Since these pictures where taken I have had more padding inserted in the seat which made a massive amount of different to comfort due to the fact that the previous owner had the foam cut down? also I have added an aftermarket tinted taller screen of about 75mm which is fantastic on a 1000km day,
