Folks-
I've got a fuel gauge that works, and I just bought a new fuel level sending unit, as my unit works, but it has a collapsed float. The fuel gauge presently tests when I move the float lever by hand. Interestingly, the fuel low level warning light does not come on at all. It won't even test when I turn the ignition switch on. I did check the bulb. The bulb has continuity, so I assume it is good.
Any ideas? I'm about to install the new fuel level sender. The light should at least test, shouldn't it?

No,....looks like you got a wiring problem in this circuit. (most likely tank connector, or in the instuments).
The level sender grounds the warning lamp. |

The low fuel lamp doesn't "test" when the ignition is turned on.
There's a delay in the circuitry for the low fuel light coming on so that it doesn't flash on and off while you're riding and fuel is sloshing around in your tank. Hold it down for 20-30 seconds to see if it's working.
The low fuel light on my 94 RS doesn't work and I will never bother to fix it because on a bike with a fuel gauge I find it superfluous and annoying, especially when riding at night.
