Hello All,

I am about to start this mayor service on my 96 K1100RS. Can I ask please ask for any recommendations on the best fluids to use for transmission, final-drive and shocks.

I am only entry-mid level skilled, so any recommendations will be welcome.

Many thanks,

Damian

Questions please
- What is the bikes history with you? e.g it's first service with you.
- with the bike do you use it for transport to work - only for weekends.
- What do you plain to do mainly with it.- some short/ long trips.

Advise if new to this servicing game.

Get a cheap log book to keep records.
Get a good bike manual and read it all with a high light pen. Answer any questions through us you do not understand.
Do not do any thing you do not understand.

I like to do things to mind before they have to be done. Mine is mainly weekends and short and long trips.

Stay safe.

Damian,

Turbine had some good thoughts.

What I would add is oil weight - from a long term but sadly departed member, Phil Marvin.

Phil had told me about some information from Paul Glaves who is THE k bike wiz, a very credible BMWMOA contributor.

In the interest of longevity, use heavier weight (synthetic if possible) gear oil 85-140 in the transmission and slightly thinner weight (synthetic again if possible) 75 or 80-90 in the final drive.

Others will add their input for your other concerns.

Best of luck with your K bike.

John
