Rick Harris (He is a BMW mechanic on youtube) has said that he has never seen a K1100 16V where the valves ever tightened up.
I hope he is right. |

Or mine either!
As I understand it as an engine "ages" and the valves snap shut under pressure from the valve springs- at the valve seat, 2 things happen.
The valve seat is slowly hammered deeper into the cylinder head.
At the same time the head of the valve is slowly being stretched into a reverse mushroom shape.
Both of those happen over millions of cycles- in 60,000 miles/100,000 km each valve goes through something like 120,000,000 cycles.
All this slowly but continuously tightens up valves.
OK, so this is way more than what was needed here. _________________ John & Cathy
