|

Hi guys - it's bee a while since I posted.
Given how much is written about problems with early ABS - and the weight saving of removing it, I thought that a "how to" would be readily available online.
But a quick search does not reveal a step by step guide.
Does anyone know of an online resource to assist me ?
TIA

For a 93:
Remove both blue relays from the relay box. That will make the ABS lights in the cluster go away.
Remove the control unit and modulators.
Run brake lines directly from the front and rear master cylinders to the calipers. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Brilliant - I wondered if the answer was that it was straightforward enough not to need a detailed "How To"
Now all I need to find out is how the new UK MOT (annual roadworthiness test I'm not sure what the US equivalent is) rules apply to modified machines.
I know it used to be OK to remove but I'm not sure now. _________________ Terry

I don't envy you having to deal with that MOT crap. Here in the US
most states don't require annual inspections because all they really want is your money, not safety. JMHO. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hello Terry,
I have read on other UK BMW forums that it is not necessarily the MOT man that you might have a problem with. More like your insurance company as you are effectively changing the bike from standard and infact removing what is a potential safety device from the machine..
....if you don't tell them and it is inspected as a result of a claim then it may give them a reason not to pay up in the worst case.
Mine still works and I keep my fingers crossed as it is now a 19 year old system and it can only be a matter of time....
It might be useful to post what your insurance company say? if anything for others to read?
Best regards,
David |

My bike insurance company, Progressive, asks specifically whether the bike has ABS. I have no idea how this would play out if it were to be removed. _________________ Blake
