Well I discovered today that my tail lamp no longer works. I replaced the bulb with a different one known to be good - still nothing. Looking at the Clymer's manual it seems the bulb is controlled via a gray/black wire from the "bulb monitoring unit". All my other bulbs / functions operate normally and I had no indication on the dash of a burned out bulb.

Is it possible the bulb monitoring unit is faulty?

TIA,

Do you have rear Run-N-Lites? If the tail light goes out but the Run-N-Lites are working then the current goes through them and keeps the BMU happy.

Or the BMU could be bad.

Pull the BMU and test for continuity from the terminal in the connector to the tail light to make sure the wire is good.

Thanks Duck. Many times when troubleshooting a problem my dad would say "Check the easy and obvious things first." And many time I forget such good advice. I thought I had checked Fuse #2 earlier today, but must not have because when I pulled it later this afternoon and put the meter on it, no continuity. Installed a new fuse and voila - Lights!

I don't have Run-N-Lites but do have the K-2 Tail upgrade. The brake lights worked, but no tail lights until the new fuse. Now all is good.

That K2 tail light upgrade is great. I have it on all of my K Bikes.
