Well I finally got around to it and also worked out how to read the ABS fault codes on my bike and what came up was as mentioned "code number 4" which is the rear speed sensor.

Basically I reset the ABS codes, rode it for a few miles and then got the multimeter onto it and counted the pulses as instructed with 4 pulses counted.

I re adjusted the sensor gap to 0.50mm - 0.55mm as specified, the sensor goes have and get power to it, I have put detox on the connecting pins at the junction box, checked and rechecked and then started the bike again on the centre stand and let it run.

The abs dash lights flash alternately on start up as always, I start the bike and I hit the abs switch to stop this flashing while the bike is running and the rear wheel is spinning at 30kph on the stand, I let it warm up and then again the abs lights flash alternatively again after a few mintues.

Am I missing something in regards to the rear sensor? or could it just be broken itself even if getting power and just needs replacing altogether, what is time the other end of the sensor wire up under the tank, is there something there that needs cleaning??

Start to slowly go insane with this flashing light issue

I have had the bike on a trickle charge constantly when parked which is has been mostly for the last 2 months, while I sorted my faulty speedo issue.

I have put the battery which looks quite new on my heavy duty battery charger also and fully booted it a couple of times just to be sure also.

The alternating flashing abs lights is what I have only seen from it since I have had the bike in 3 months..

Just wondering if I have missed anything else??

Just to eliminate the possibility that your battery is the cause of the problem, get it load tested.

I think rotating the rear wheel at speed without the front moving will also confuse the ABS II brain. Don't do that.

Re-set again and ride nrmally. If again you get the flasing lights, stop & read the code.

If it is still the rear sensor it might be best then to swap in a known good sensor to diagnose.

Gidday Folks,

Ok so this morning I ride the bike around the block a few times, stop and rest the codes then ride it again around the block.

The other day it read 4 blinks (rear sensor) which I adjusted before todays ride.

I check the code again and it gives me 3 blinks and not 4 like the other day, I readjust the front sensor spacing (3 blinks) then ride it again, I pull over, kill the ignition then restart, again around the block and nothing new again as the ABS lights keep flashing alternately as always.

So back into the shed I go and out comes the battery removed and now sitting on the bench:

I hook up my good charger and it shows only 75% charged even though it has been on the other trickle charger for 2 months, so the battery is crap I gather and or the my old trickle charger is on the way out...

Sorry but I have not got it "load tested" like you asked as I have not been into the larger regional town to the battery distributor this week to get it done.

The wording on the battery is:

"POWERVOLT" - NANO-GEL TECHNOLOGY BATTERIES

MG12-19L

12V 19Ah

CHINA.

Being a complete electrical novice is this battery even if it was a new one big enough for this beemer and the ABS system?

What brand and output should I have and please understand that I am in Australia so certain brands might not be available but the output would be important to get right..

I bought the Westco brand 12v20P battery for my LT's.
Others buy the Odyssey brand, some buy Panasonic, etc...it kind of depends on availability and personal preference.
Obviously 12V but capacity somewhere between 18-25 ah should be good.
The critical issue is the dimensions and terminal style/location.
You don't want a battery with terminals too tall to hit on the bottom of the Motoronic unit.

A sealed LA/gel battery is much preferred over the original wet cell style.

Grant - I'll bet on the battery. That's an el cheapo- consider the source. The label can have anything printed on it... The specs are right, though.

Grant, here's what you want, have one in my K11Rs, works like a beaut.... You may be able to get it even cheaper locally. It doesn't mention LT, not sure if they are the same, but Motobatt will have an equivalent for any battery. Trooper Lus in Melbourne have pretty good prices on them as well.

Just check the dimensions first, that's the right one for the RS, not sure about the LT. The colour sticks out a bit tho!

The only reason I am asking is that he is local, will be handy if any issues arise and I can just drop it back.

But the battery that he has listed and sent the specs back for all "K" models is a wide battery, nothing skinny like the Motobatt.
With the dimensions below would it fit do you think, it seems tight to me?

The skinny "no name brand" in my bike now measures 185mm long x 180mm high x 85mm wide

BTW - Drikko if this does not happen then the Motobatt will be ordered

I've had the same issue with a K11, even with a brand new battery, just run the bike for 1 minute and restart would do the trick. It was a gel battery, switched to another gel battery with the same behavior. So I'd recommend staying away from gel. A more radical solution would be to change the ABS brain, it looks like there can be some variation from unit to unit.

Grant, the Powersport website doesn't have the K11 listed and the batteries recommended for the K75 and K1200 and "all K series" are all wet cell. don't go there. Make sure its an AGM battery. They do have an AGM battery line but no info on them that I can see quickly.

As far as I'm concerned wet cell batteries only belong in cars where they can cope better with the under bonnet heat, but anything that could turn upside down like bikes and yachts should only have AGM batteries fitted. Ask them if the battery they are selling you can be fitted at any angle ie even upside down, if the answer is no then move along....
