Y'all will hopefully get here after the bad weather lifts; looks like storms/heavy rain thru tomorrow. I'll probably swing by the lodge tomorrow evening w/some firewood. Also, I've got some other good ride recommendations; the Whitetop trip is excellent. Can also suggest some good eatin' & drinkin' stops. Crap; wish work wasn't so damn crazy right now! Y'all be safe getting here. _________________ No motorcycles, just bicycles & a canoe |

OK folks. Did 12 hours of mostly back roads and am in a motel in Scotland, Pa (on I-81, about 20 miles from the bottom of Pa). Great roads but......
I rode through about 5-6 hours of heavy rain and holy crap wind.
Weather report looks like more rain and thunderstorms for tomorrow.
So I'll add my "be careful out there". _________________ John & Cathy

Looking at a few different forecasts for Wednesday, looks like all day rain but around the Virginia area, thunderstorms are more likely later on in the day than earlier.
Just a heads up. _________________ John & Cathy

I've been watching the weather all day and it's weird, they were calling for heavy rain here and all the way out to Marion, but there weren't any major rain events in Southern VA or North Carolina. It was just cool and damp and a bit of light rain here today, but they are calling for possibly severe weather tomorrow...
I think the devastation in Arkansas from this system has them a little freaked out.
I hope they are over predicting it, like today.
If it truly looks dangerous, I'll delay until Thursday. _________________ Steve

@ John - remember...skin is waterproof.
@ Steve - I too have been doing the same. I don't think it's going to be all that bad.
@ BigDave - Looking forward to seeing you again. We'll pass a good time!
@ David - We'll leave the light on for ya.
@ Everyone - As you know I ain't skeard of no dirt road...BUT Whitetop Mtn. may not be a good choice due to the heavy rains we're all keeping an eye on. It will very likely be deeply rutted and still quite wet/slick where the gravel is washed off.
I'd gladly haul ass up there on my K, (if it running by the time the ride starts) but unless it were DRY groomed gravel, I'll not be taking Steve's beloved S1000RR up there. (if it were MY bike I would)
I'm working all night and should home at 0800. Steve is loading the bikes before I get home. If all get done, I should be departing Culpeper at about 0930 at the latest. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Hi you "guys" and ladies too....!
I've been watching the Weather Channel and focusing on South West Virginia... I've also broken out my book of mystic incantations and sacrificial chants,, all to the "god of speed" in your behalf. I'm sure glad it's working for you... Ride safe all, I sure miss seeing you and catching up on all the "K News".. Don't let Shogi wear you out !!
Best regards as always.../ Ernie ( rather be in VA ) NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

OK folks- sorry to bolt from HM headquarters a day early. Already miss the HM circus.
Easy trip home, just a few very light showers for a couple minutes. But....
Woke up here today and it looks like the weather I rode to HM in- 40 degrees and RAIN.
So I guess I made the right decision.
Everyone else- as HM VII begins the fade into history- safe ride home, OK?
See you all, and maybe some newbys next year.
I leave you with some interesting traveling music.....Ya' gotta' see this.

Good to hang out with y'all last night (traumatized waitress & all). Hoping my damn work doesn't interfere next year. And Hungry Mother is really convenient for me, but once again Douthat Park would be an excellent meeting spot too; amazing roads up thataways. Hope everybody has safe travels home! _________________ No motorcycles, just bicycles & a canoe |
