Update:
Steve stayed home and we together were able to complete the rear main seal job.
0700 - Bacon and coffee
0800 - Head to Morton's for parts
0900 - They open, we shop
0940 - Head home
10:30 - start working
12:30
1500 - Lunch
16:00
Note to self: When carefully protecting the delicate clutch push rod from potential damage by tucking it in the Clymer, remember to install it IN the transmission BEFORE mounting the final drive, alternator and the starter.
18:00
Wheel, fender and center stand on. (Back on)
Note to self: As you know brake cleaner has many uses. Add to list power antiseptic and possible chemical cautery.
19:00
Done and done.

Got the bike to the shop today for service. Looks like I'll be able to make it to HMSP VII.
Found out the ABS is going south - or more likely - has already gone south - but also found out there's a place in Idaho that fixes ABS II. Got the tape over the lights. I think it will still pass inspection.
I hope everyone can bring a few extra $s to cover the empty bunk. _________________ Jim

Jim, if you are talking about my open bunk, dont worry about giving me $ back. It was my situation that changed that opened it so i didnt expect any refund. _________________ Ride safe.

Hello all...
OK HMSP-ers only a few days away !! Jim: just want to mention that I cannot leave NH until Thursday, so wont be there until Friday.. also I will be "bikeless" due to the neck surgery ( ie: cervical nerve ablation ) just last week. I WILL be there in my truck, full "piss and vinegar" hopefully and glad to see everyone again... Would be GREAT if the Kiwis, Ted, RAL, and now Scott could be there as well eh ?
Anyway see you Friday next week..// Ernie 'bikeless' in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

Ernie, I will be there. The situation that changed for me is that my wife is able to be with me so we got a cabin instead of the lodge bunk. _________________ Ride safe.

Sweet! Two trucks! What could possibly go wrong.
The K11 is all back together but I'm leaving off the lower fairing, saddle, fuel tank, fairing panels and side panels. I'll be bringing them, but there's no point in putting all that back on just to take it off to sort out the electrics.
I'll be trailing it and the S1000RR as well as being able to haul a poop load of tools. I'm also bringing all kinds of cooking stuff and supplies that will help reduce the cost of feeding everyone and make preparation easier.
I might as well make the best of a bad situation. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

I might be envying all of you drivers.
Looks like when I am planning on leaving NH (Tuesday), the forecast is for 40 or so degrees and possibility of rain. Brrrr.
If it is truly crap weather there might be 4 trucks. _________________ John & Cathy

We have another rider coming!
David Parker from the LDrider list.
"Looks like I may be able to get to HM on Thursday or Friday. Would a bunk be open for Thursday night only?" "I'm in Winston Salem, NC."
So save that last bunk for David!

Looking forward to repeating this little side trip, a bit of unpaved dirt road up to the almost top of Whitetop Mtn. Second only to Mt. Rogers, the highest in the state at 5,729 ft., White Top's summit is 5,520 ft.
I just noticed that the AT (Appalachian Trail) runs along a section of this road, so we've actually ridden our motorcycles on the AT! How cool is that?
Audi took us up this a few years back and it was the first real unpaved road I had ridden on my K11RS and is was scary as hell, but made me a lot more confident in the loose stuff and not nearly as afraid of it as I was. The 'ole K did just fine.
Last year I lead a group up there again and after that we continued on and rode 58 back east to 16 and that lower 58 section was a hoot, running along the river bottom for a long while, lots of curves....incredible scenery.

Heading out in about an hour. Just about freezing here but dry.
Taking a day and a half to get to HM, mostly back roads. _________________ John & Cathy
