Update: The re-wiring of the bike is 90% done. Currently awaiting the fuse blocks to arrive and I need to figure out how to wire in the relay between the switched and un-switched sides of the fuse panel.
Of the 20 days remaining to departure on 4/30, I work 13 of them. (10th-15th) & (23rd-29th)
That leaves 7 days.
My plan is to concentrate ALL my efforts on the rear main seal replacement because it has become a safety issue with the amount of oil leaking.
I really wanted to have a working crash bar prototype prior to HM.
So, either I'll have a rideable bike or a trailer-able bike by the morning of 4/30, too close to call right now.
In either case, I'll be trailering it and I'll hauling a butt load of hand tools, power tools, drop cords, parts and pieces and trail my bike to HM.
I plan to occupy a corner of the pavilion and keep working on the crash bar design. There will be a LOT of wrenching and mechanical skills at HM that can be brought to bear and I can use all to help I can get.
This project is very important to me and I've wanted to solve this for years. It just took a lowside and if I counted right, 6 drops since this time last year.
What was a beautiful bike last year, looks like hammered shit this year and frankly I am embarrassed for you guys to even see it. I refuse to repair any body damage until I have functioning crash bars because simply it will be a waist of money.
But you are also my friends and I have always been comfortable being myself with you all. And yes, you are more than welcome to give me shit .
This year I'm making chili for supper with toppings like sweet onions, cheese and sour cream.

Hi "Shogs"...
RE: ""... yes, you are more than welcome to give me shit . """.. Man oh man.. I cannot wait ! What an invitation! Seriously however, be sure to bring lights to use with the drops since it will involve a lot of nighttime wrenching and "stand around semi-sober, drikko-style, engineering"...plus a good Dremel in addition to the other stuff. Extra 'musts haves' can be had at O'Reilly's in town.
See you there buddy-girl....! ( my surgery is next Thursday, BUT I will
be there with or without several vertebrae )

Hey folks, got good news & bad news. Bad news is I'm on call for work that weekend Friday through Monday morning (maintenance at the local public housing authority). Was gonna take off Thursday to ride with y'all but we've got a big HUD inspection coming up the 3rd week of May and there's no way I can take time off. Good news is I can still bring some firewood, hang out a bit and maybe make a beer run or something. And I'll be in the work van so smuggling wood will be easier. _________________ No motorcycles, just bicycles & a canoe |

Today is the first day off in 7 so I'll be cleaning house all day, paying bills and balancing the budget...etc.
Bike status:
1. All the ground wires are secured to the frame.
2. All the (+) are routed to the fuse block location
3. I received the actual fuse blocks this week
To do:
1. Hard wire the fuse blocks using the change over relay
2. Connect all the devices.
3. Blow a shit load of fuses.
4. Sort out what I did wrong.
At that point, I'll have a rideable bike tho the rear main seal is seriously toast.
It's leaking so bad I just don't feel it's safe.
With that in mind, I'm hoping my husband can help me this week end with that monster job. My thumb is more useful everyday but it's still not 100%. Heavy stuff and things that require strong grip or dexterity are still not possible.
I'm still not opposed to trailering the bike. If I did that, I can bring all the tools I need, including cooking stuff and it's always good to have 4 wheels at a m/c gathering and a trailer can't hurt as we all well know. (Right Steve )
My husband took our camera to MotoGP so I don't have any decent pics to post in a thread and I'm reluctant to post anything until I'm finished.
(Scott Underscore and Rydor have seen some pics on facebook)
All that said, I'll be at HM riding there or not.
I don't have anything to prove. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Well, my 97 R1100RS is still for sale; you could just buy it when you get here! Seriously though, best of luck with all the repairs. Sounds challenging! _________________ No motorcycles, just bicycles & a canoe |

Dave,
There is someone on the ADVRider.com forum who is looking to buy an R1150RS. Here is his post from the ADV forum. Interestingly enough the guy has a K1100RS that he finds uncomfortable.

So....
My dad wants to get a BMW R1150RS, and has tasked me with the finding of it. Of course it's one of the harder BMW bikes to find (trumped by the K1200R Sport..... ). He's looking for one with preferably 45k or less on the clock, and in good mechanical and cosmetic condition. If you have this elusive beastie and are thinking it may be time for something else, give me a shout. We're located in Starkville, MS, and would prefer not to travel further than 600 miles, but for the right bike/price, we may consider shipping.
He has a 95 k1100RS that he might be interested in trading towards it. He loves the KRS, but the seating position is causing him some troubles. |
Dave, if you want, PM me your email address and I will PM it to him.

Hey John, thanks for the tip but my bike doesn't sound like the right match; it's an 1100, it's got 72K and it's well over 600 miles from here to there and I don't want to get into shipping a motorcycle. Funny how the dad wants an R1150RS in lieu of a K1100RS; seems like they'd be a similar fit! _________________ No motorcycles, just bicycles & a canoe |

Bike status report:
I stopped on the electrical work before finishing it so that I could work on the more serious issue of the rear main seal.
It's out.
And of course the requisite .... "Oh my god! what a PITA" this job is every damn time I do it"
Sadly, I failed to order all the parts needed beyond the seal, which I've currently misplaced,
Tuesday morning I'll be at the door of Morton's when they turn the key to pick up the thrust washer, nut, bolts and ANOTHER seal if I can't find the one I've already paid for.
Steve has made the S1000RR street ready as back up.
Whether the k11 will be rideable is still up in the air.
So my current plan is to trailer the K11 and S1000RR.
That way I can have a bike to ride and can finish the electrical project, perhaps the help of our own electron herder, Scott. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

I think someone said it looked like an Italian bike.
Something about spaghetti.
