Hey folks, this is Big Dave the Marion guy (aka the illegal firewood source). Got the date on the calendar; hope to be riding my '82 R100RT with y'all if you're OK with an airhead joining in! .

Why not? I rode a Kawi C-14 Concours to HM III. Rolling Eyes

Who knows what I'll be on this year........

Yeah, Audi- it is coming.....can't wait. Very Happy

HEY... "Big Dave the Marion guy "...!

IF I thought I could get my '76 R100/7 there, I would head out in a minute. There are actually quite a few of us "K" people who are also "Airheads"..so you'd better be there with/without firewood.!

Wait a minute, Ernie. Dave has a pickup truck, and access to wood. We don't want to be paying by the stick down at the main office... Plus, if it is cool at night, we might want some real barn burners on that little grate...

Crying or Very sad

Due to my loweside, this may be the first year I'll be bike-less. I have it opened up in the garage right now.

Bike Work List

Maintenance
1. Rear main seal
2. Assess catchy throttle grip
3. Adjust throttle cable

Removal
1. J&M radio and antenna
2. Broken oil caddy
3. Cut 3” off bottom of Number5 tower

Repair
1. Top of Number 5

Modify
1. Add better quick disconnect to Number5 power switch
2. Add quick disconnect to each CREE lamp on tower

Replace
1. Antenna
2. Rear fender screws
3. Right rear turn signal
4. Belly pan bracket

Move
1. Fuse Block and all in-line fuses to right side of bike

Build / Rebuild
1. New oil caddy out of diamond tread
2. Secure Number5 lights to fuel cell

And that doesn't incluse this little project.

K1100RS Crash Bar System

I went to school for nursing, not engineering so I’m SURE I’m missing/not understanding many things.
The goal is to create a K1100RS crash bar system that anyone could mount without too much drama.

Pics in no special order.
http://shoganai.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Crash-Bars/

My first thought was it could be mounted the bar across the top, but
that won't work because of fouling with the headlight.
So I'll be attaching it behind the bracket. That fouls with the bolt
holes in the bracket, so I'll have to bend it so it doesn't.

I plan is to have a working crash bar system by no later than 4/27.

First remover ALL non-OEM wiring, get out of the way
1. Buy more copper tubing
2. Cut large holes in upper fairing under mirrors
3. Bend copper tubing for upper fairing mount and extend outside of the fairing
4. Temporally attach copper tubing to upper fairing bracket
5. Buy Easy Mold Silicone Putty
8. Use molding putty to create a 3D model of the area where T-type 3-part union will go
9. Cut holes in mid-fairings at upper engine mounts
10. Cut holes in lower fairing
11 Attach LT crash bars on oil sump and engine bolts
12. Using copper tubing mock-up crash bars for both sides
13. Have machine shop make T-type 3-part union to fit within the limited space
13a. also take to them the spare upper fairing mount, bike and mock-ups
14. Join the upper fairing bar to downward sweep with a one-piece double-wide SS shaft collar
15. Join the mid fairing/engine mount to downward sweep via a through and though SS bolt

In designing the upper fairing to crash bar T-type 3-part union I’ll be working VERY closely with the machine shop. We need to make it so once the bar is passed through the fairing, attaching them should be able to be done from underneath.

To help with hole cutting, I’ll be making lift-size paper templates.

We had a brief flurry of snow yesterday as this Nor'Easter blew through.

But, we had 76 last weekend and calls for near 70 this Saturday, so I'm not complaining...

I'll bet the trees up there will still be bare in early May.

All the spring blooming stuff down here is about 3 weeks behind usual.

The sugaring season (sap for maple syrup) is really late this year. It should have been halfway done by now- this year it hasn't started. Once the trees bud- it's all over.

Sugaring for syrup needs above 32 daytime then below freezing at night. We have not been above freezing at all.

John,

Your offer is far too kind and very practical under both our current conditions. (me no bike and you with snow)

I could force it to be rideable but the rear main seal is WAY overdue to the point it may not be safe to ride. It really needed addressing before my cross country walk-a-about.

I'll take you up on it. Thank you so very much for your friendship and kindness.

It will take a huge amount of pressure off me as my thumb is still making doing anything a little more difficult.

Forever in your debt,

Gwen

Some good news to share. I will not be coming alone this year.
Very recent changes has made it available for my wife to attend with me this year.
To that end I have made arrangements for a nearby cabin. Soooo, this make my bunk available in the lodge if someone else would like to come.

If you were on a waiting list for a lodge bunk, be sure to P.M. or Email Jim if you still have interest.
