It was a sunny nice day so I decided to take a ride on Skyline drive and then do a hike up Hawksbill Mountain.

Since I had the camera, I took a little video of the rear wheel that I'm going to get straightened.

The ride to the park was super nice - warm, great roads and traffic free. In the park, the clouds rolled in and the temp dropped to about 40*. 20 speedy minutes got me to the start of the hike.

It's a mile to the top

The views there are amazing!

There's a neat shelter near the top

When I got back down it started to snow!

The snow only last a short time and the roads were mostly dry on the way back.

I had my bike looked over when I got back

I grabbed a bit to eat and a mile from the end, I had a flat tire. Sad I walked home, got some tools and took the tire off, plugged it and rode home. I hope it's holding air in the morning.

A wheel on my R has a similar bend and has never been a problem. I learned to run a bit more tire pressure from that experience.

10+ years ago I enjoyed riding the Skyline. Thankfully no flat tire, only a painful bee sting in the neck! But the views were beautiful.

You're lucky to live so close to some great roads and riding.

If I was up there, I would never get any work done!

The Skyline Drive is awesome.

I think the $10 entry fee keeps the traffic down - unlike the Blue Ridge Parkway summer time weekend traffic crawls.

Worth the annual parks pass if you are local and ride it regular.

I'm glad the flat tire was only a few blocks from home.

I say the same thing about living close to the ocean. Maybe we could do a job swap for a month!

I always have a mid week day off and I'm out the door before the sun is up. That's a combo that means I almost near have to deal with traffic. I do a lot of hiking so I have an annual pass to Shenandoah, but this year I what to go to Great Smoky Mountains National Park so I may get a national pass.
