i have a feeling it's just cause the engine is running at a high temperature cause i ran it with a high idle accidentally for a couple days. Does this engine simply use water to cool or can i get actual coolant for it? _________________ GM guy, saved by the graces of BMW

Hi!
If you simply asking if K1100 is water cooled, the answer is YES, whole K series is water cooled. In opposite to R series (oil heads), witch is air and oil cooled. And yes you can and should change a coolant one a two years.
If you asking for sth. else - I can't help, because I can't get what you mean .

Not quite sure what you mean, but I'll assume by "coolant" that you mean the usual mix of approx 50% distilled or deionized water and 50% good quality antifreeze designed for aluminium engines. That's what should be in your K, not plain water. Plain water damages engines. The following is a thermostat housing from a BMW M20 2.5 litre engine run on water alone, sans the corrosion-inhibiting effects of antifreeze. Note the corrosion and erosion on the hose fittings. That level of damage was present throughout the engine.

haha, sorry i have a problem with wording my questions, but yes, all i wanted to know was how i needed to work the cooling fluids, i had some shoot up on my friends leg the other day while he was riding it so i think it was running a little warm and overflowing. Anyways, thanks for the help. _________________ GM guy, saved by the graces of BMW

Still not sure what the question is. I had a problem with overflowing from
expansion tank - problem was the radiator cap had failed and the temp was getting too high.
Do a search for coolant - see top of page under K11! |
