Premature tire wear on my Avon Storm 2 ultra on left side of tire. Has less than 4000 mile I estimate. The right side still looks great, almost new. Rear tire also great. I checked tire pressure last weekend (about 5lb low when I inflated to about 45 lbs , recommended 42 lbs) and noticed some moderate cupping, which was dissapointing, but not ABnormal..then looked over the tire about 300 miles later the other day and the tire is about shot. Air pressure still at about 45 lbs.
Pics of the left side , right side and the third is next to a Conti that was just previous to the Avon with about 9000 miles.

Would like opinions and ideas on cause...seemed to rapidly deteriate.
Got a new Conti on the way, but I dont think I can blame this on Avon until I check the bike out first.
My bike is a 96 K1100RS with 71,000 miles.

Thanks and Happy Trails!
Brad

You live in IA?

I would think squaring off would be an issue.

The URL did not work for me.

Is your wallet really thick causing you to tilt the bike?

Try Michlein RP3's. 40 front 38 rear.

K1100RS is a heavy ride so run em higher or risk a bent rim.

Front fork oil level good, is it correct? Worn rear shock can cause odd things to happen to tires too.

Others will be along soon, I don't think this is a first occurance on the site.

Hope you track it down.

Possibly a wallet issue...unfortunatly I'm right handed, so maybe it's too LIGHT on the right...although I DO "hang to the left" . Very Happy

try this link to check it out until I figure out how to upload it :

plan to change fork oil this weekend, got new brake pads coming that should show up tomorrow..
Haven't ordered steering head bearings yet, but thinking about it it just to rule it out.
Just dont want to be buying a front tire every 4000!

A friend of mine, is a tire engineer and recomended the Michelin RPs also. Already have a new Conti delivered today (have gotten 9-10,000 out of the Contiforces) but will try the RP's next.

Wow, that's some nasty uneaven wear.
How bad are your road crowns down around there.

I have been running PR2's front and been able to get over 12-14K miles out of them. Basically 1 good riding season.

I have also been able to get the same mileage out of the Avon Azaro on the rear.

I just mounted up a brand new set last night on the '95 for my Seattle trip coming up. PR2 front and Avon rear.

I've had some cupping as I approach the end of life of the tire, but nothing like what you have there.

This seemed to get from moderate (acustomed to SOME cupping and uneven wear) to bad in a hurry, and more severe than what I've had in the past.

Not really any unusual road conditions that I've been aware of.

Tire pressure was actually a little OVER spec when it went downhill fast.
Got the steering head bearings on the way, fork oil bought, new brake pads should arrive today, and will make sure the calipers aren'tt acting up when I have it apart, that should cover any outside influences...but still kinda curious.
