|
So I'm thinking I can design frame slider for a K1100RS.
Or at least I'm gonna utterly trash two partially trashed mid-fairing trying.
Left side showing engine mount.
Right side showing engine mount.
Left side.
Right side.
K1200S slider test fit. Threads are not long enough nor is the shank.
But you get the idea.
I'll work on getting accurate numbers then have a local machine shop make a pair of threaded shanks just like the K1200S. Then I'll just buy the black slider part to put on them. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

They might be better known in some parts of the world as Oggy Knobs - http://www.kenma.com.au/oggy_knobs.html - something that hits the deck before the expensive parts of the bike _________________ David, owner of:

Good Morning Ernie :bighugandkiss
drikko :smooch :raisedglass
Yes, robleud, that's it.
I have scowered the Net since 2000 and they just do not exist.
We all know these bikes f'ing love to lay the hell where ever and when ever the mood hits them, or when we air dab.
So guessed it can't really be all that hard to make a pair.
Some things to consider:
Left and right are not the same by a few inches, therefore I'll need to design one for each side.
Next, note where the round part of the shank engages with the engine...I will be enlarging the mating face of the shank to make more contact with the engine. That will allow the impact force to be spead out, reducing the risk of failure the shaft (think snap in half) and reduce the risk of cracking the 'ear' where the bolt passes through.
At this point I'm gathering materials to made two perfect modles to take to the machine shop from which they will made the proto types.

Gwen:
With 7 or so inches of leverage between the impact point and where the bolt enters the mounting point on the head I'd be willing to bet that a getoff with any speed at all will cause the bolt to break off at it's base or, at the very least, bend quite a bit. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hi Shogs....
IF you'll note: There is a slight spelling difference between
"Orgy" and "Oggy"... The first is something we ALL enjoy and the second is something we'd rather not have to employ !! As for me.... I'll take any ration of the first I can get.... how about you ??

Just thinking: on the K11LT's, the case guards (which do the same thing in the event of a tipover) are mounted with breakaway assemblies, so that if the forces are too great on the bolt, it shears at the break-away point, not where the bolt mounts into the engine.

We could have the Hungry Prawn or Hungry Crocodile, but do agree Drop Bear would be more appropriate.
So where is halfway between Brisvegas and crow town? Looks like Cobar might be about halfway.
So we could have a K11 get together, you bring your trumpy and I'll bring the Laverda..... _________________ K1100RS '97

I didn't know that about the LT.
I've also concidered creating a "Y" off of the frame that is directly above the engine mounting bolt but can't wrap my mind around how to do that.
Suggestions are welcome, just sayin'.
Me!?
Start somethin'??
Naw...I wouldn't do anything like that Ernie...
(ditto on the enjoy vs deploy
drinkko...thank's for the reminder pics. I have to use "Favorites" to keep track of old threads, even my own.
Duck, I have the same concerns. However, all the times I've dropped mine it's been slow or no speed drops.

Shogs
Kenma don't specifically list Oggys for the classic Ks but it might be worth an email to see if they can put something together for you.
Of course with the $A being so strong just now they might be a bit expensive over your side of the world _________________ David, owner of:
