finally getting around to putting the bike together after an unexpected hospital stay and minor surgery. My question is the torque setting for the clutch nut. Clymer's says 140 Nm initial, then final setting of 50-100. BMW repair manual says 50 Nm plus 50 degrees. Which one should I go by or are they saying the same thing and I'm just misinterpreting it? _________________ 1995 K1100 LT

It could be that you find the answer to your question in the discussion about the same subject this thread.

thanks Inge, I guess I was wondering how to interpret the 50 degrees. I take it literally to mean 50 degrees, as on a compass, passed the 50Nm point. _________________ 1995 K1100 LT

well, I tightened roughly 50 degrees past 50 Nm and got a reading of 102.2 Nm. I think that'll do.

First you preload to 50 Nm, then you tighten another 50 degrees.
Some torque wrenches have a built in degree function,
or get a degree disc with adapter to mount between the wrench and socket.
