My bike has been running very well and I got a shock when I started it this afternoon to go for a ride in the perfect sunshine. It started reasonably quickly but then it was running like a woolly goat. It was running on 2 3 or 4 cylinders but I kept it running trying to look at the gauges and lights to see if there was a clue to what may be the cause. I was also interested to see if it cleared after there was some heat in the engine. It started to backfire at one stage and I wondered if there was a fuel problem. It did improve slowly but was definitely not running on 4 cylinders for quite a while. I rode up and down my street for a while expecting to have to push it home but it slowy came good and I went for a 20 km ride.
It is now running correctly and I have no idea what happened. I did think fuel? It has a new OE fuel pump, strainer and fuel filter as of 3,000 kms ago and the tank was removed and completely cleaned.
Do the fuel pumps ever have an intermittant fault or are there any other suggestions. Thanks.

As minor as it may seem, check your spark plug boots, I had a problem with loss of power on the fwy on day, but at higher rpm's it was smooth, low it was running on three cylinders, Took the cover off the plugs and found one had come off, but was close enough that on high rpm's it would arc to the plug.. Put it back on and the bike runs smooth again. Very Happy

I had the same as ET happen 2 weeks ago, fine at high revs but on 3cyl at low revs, boot cap again, but it sounds like a bit of dirt in the fuel,or sticky injector.I would run some fuel system cleaner through it and see how it goes
