Had a long trip with the Laverda club last weekend, 2500ks all up. On the second morning one of the guys was oiling his chain (google it... ) and noticed this:-
Wow, he dodged a bullet with that one, having been doing a tad (190kph) over the speed limit the evening before. Imagine if it had locked the rear wheel up! The sideways movement had crunched the pads totally and 3 spokes were broken:-
Straight to the wall behind the bar in his house I suspect!
Removed the disk and we continued on our merry way
Might be worth having a good check for cracks over your older disks! _________________ K1100RS '97

| Had the same near disaster on my R100rt a few years ago. I had my wife on the back and all the "essential junk" she carried when we toured at that time. Including full top box and side panniers and tankbag, and her too, therefore sitting a little further forward and unkowningly resting my foot on the rear brake. It must have been red hot by the time I felt the pedal and the brakes faded out. We had another 500klms to get home and each one was a worry but luckily without any trauma. |

Cheap Italian products
Surprising they don't have several reverse gear ratios.
Presumably the empties in the background are from the end of ride celebration? Not many participants then _________________ David, owner of:

Hi,
do you know what brand the disc was? (there is a BIG discussion going on a dutch motorcycle forum and i love to troll them a little bit, the discusion there is that Chinese disc are the devil PERIOD. i already borrowed the picture of the disc (being held up the the camera), but would like to know the brand of the disc.... (the "chinese discs are the devil people" are already screaming out it has to be a chinese crap disc...) i now hope the disc is the original laverda one and perhaps made by Brembo??
hope you all enjoy a little bit of trolling as well.... |

There is a noticeable difference in the design and build quality between our Ducati and BMWs.
The Duc feels slender and perhaps purposely underbuilt while the Panzerwagens have this overbuilt, long haul feel. _________________ John & Cathy

Holy Toledo Drikko
bet the new one was up around BiteMyWallet prices.
I would just weld the beggar up with a good quality TIG welder and keep going
I mean the guy prolly had ridden a lot further than 2.5Kkm on it but just noticed it as the crack grew big.
I thought most of them Laverdas were garage queens good to see youse lot get out amongs it once in a while.
All the best mate

nice and sunny up here mg, and one of the Sydney guys had a spare disk (swapped for a case of beer, try that at a beemer shop....) so we put the replacement one in, in the pits at Eastern Creek. He didn't notice it at all while riding which is scary, only when he went to oil his chain.
tmoons, definitely the original Laverda disk, pretty sure they made them in the factory, Brembo calipers of course but most likely Laverda manufactured disk. _________________ K1100RS '97

PERFECT...
i was hoping as much!! !
although I do not think most of the people in the sceptic camp will even consider believing it
ah well if the all want to spend 250 usd (to use a general indication currency) for a piece of metal (one disc) (alright ...that might be a little harsh...) which is also available.. for the same money for 2 (or less money for 2)....
anyway... thanks for the response.. |
