Hello to all, I am Marian, Phil's daughter.
It is very difficult for me to bring this information to you all, who have been such good friends to him.
Last Friday, he called me to tell me that the cancer has come back, is very aggressive and had metastasized to multiple places in his body.
This last Tuesday, he was planning on going with a friend on a small trip. When ready to go, the friend called and Phil did not answer either the house or cell phones. On arriving, he found Phil asleep on the bed and was unable to wake him up. Paramedics came and took him to Del Sol hospital. Yesterday, they performed a CT scan and have found that he has had a few strokes, including 2 in the thalamus, one on each side (for those unfamiliar with neuro, the thalamus is sort of like the relay station within the brain, nearly everything passes through it at some point). Consequently, the probability of him waking up is practically nil.
We are starting the process of having him evaluated for inpatient hospice care.
I know he cares for you all. When he was living with me for the treatment, he was always wanting the laptop so he could get on and check the messages boards. And he loved the trips to visit you all, he talked a lot about the different Hungry gatherings
I know that this is a little out of nowhere, especially after the good news the beginning of Feb. My main mantra right now is CANCER SUCKS.
I just know that he would want you all to know what is going on, and I will keep you updated as events occur.

Marian,
All of our thoughts are with you and your Dad.
Phil was one of the anchors of all the "Hungry" get togethers.
Our collective voices are speechless about your father and our friend.

Wow, that's so sad...
We wish Phil and his family the best....he is an original....
I'm trying to find a picture of him from HM3 that Shogs took, it's a great shot of him next to his bike, I'll always remember that picture of him.
Godspeed Phil..... _________________ Steve

Marian:
Thank you for letting us know. Our thoughts and prayers are with Phil, you, your family and Phil's many friends.
I'd known Phil for several years via forums and the phone so it was great to finally meet him in person back in 2009 when he came to my cabin.
Phil has always been a K-biker's K-biker and I've learned a lot from him. Please give him my best.
Regards,
Drake

Marian, as a group of Phil's friends, I want to offer you a round trip flight to Virginia so that you can come to Hungry Mother.
Your lodging is covered.
We'll provide all of your meals.
All you need to bring is clothes and Phil's skeddy recipe
We'll handle every thing else.
To Marian: you pick the flight you want to make it here: http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10530
If you will see if you can get a flight into Charlottesville, VA, I'll pick you up and I'll trailer my bike to HM with you.
I just live in Culpeper, 45min. North.
After you pick the flight, post it here or text me with the info. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

One more thing...
Lets see how many pictures of Phil you can bring to HM to hang on the walls of the Lodge.
Then Marian can take they home with her. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

greetings yawl...
i just wanted to share my latest phil marvin experience with you folks...
last week phil marvin called me... i spent about an hour on the phone with himl... which is about right because he always has allot to say...
he started out by saying that he beat down the esophageal cancer and was looking to putting on some weight and get back to riding... however his body was riddled with cancer and he didnt know if he had 3 weeks or 3 months to live...
phil made it obvious that had come to terms with the reality that he was not going to get to retire and spend his golden years telling stories at rallies and keeping us junival motobrickers in line...
we talked about when he lived in the carolinas... when he lived in spain... and when he moved to el paso... his children and his wife... he could go on forever about his children and his wife... we talked about allot of things...
some of you folks know that phil hit a deer... almost killed him... as he was convalescing his wife died... then he got cancer... we all thought he would beat it down... which he did... but it came back with a fury and with these strokes that leaves us where we are at now...
he was too weak to push his k75 around the garage and he was too weak to drive to hungee mother and hungree dungee... butt he wanted to see his friends one last time... so he gott his buddy of 30+ years from his first job from when he moved to el paso to drive him around the usa and canada for one last lap...
they were going to take 3 to 4 months and drive the usa and canada counterclockwise... he was going to hungree mother and hungree dungee and see his friends along the way... he told me he hoped he could make it for the whole lap... but he just didnt know if he could...
he talked about seeing folks that i see posting at the bmwmoa site and the old geezers site and at the motobrick.com... i can say of the folks here he said he especially wanted to see shogani and sugarhillctd... you two are his favorite old geezers... and of course he wanted to see everybody he had met along the way as well as the bmw old guard... there were many...
by the time we hung up he was in tears and i was fighting them off... not because he wasnt going to make it... butts because he didnt know if he had the time to see everybody he wanted to see...
me and the mickster are hoping for strength for phils family... and at this point comfort for phil...

I met Phil in 2008 at the MOA Rally, although he and I had spoken at other times, at other places, we were not familier. That happend here, with KO11OG and me getting to HM last year.
Phil told lots of good stories and shared much. I so wish I had known him longer, better, deeper.
A few years ago the time in my life came to pass where I'd lost more people known & loved to that wicked cancer than I had to motor cycles.
Seems to get harder now to bear as the years march on, that stoney fact and I can't go back to that place in time. Just as none of us can.
It's cold & rainy here today in SE WI.
How befitting of such sad & somber news. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Hello all...
Sad sad news indeed... I am without words to express how badly I feel and the thought of missing him in May and all he brings to us.

In the background Marian, myself and one other are working out the details of getting her to HM.
Since I'll be trailering to HM this year, I'll be bringing the Blue Streak and the K1200S :evil
Also, since I can, I'll bring the turkey frier. I was thinking hamburgers on the grill w/ all the fixin's and hot fresh french fries.
Waudda think?
Once the frier is setup, (which I can do on Thursday) it doesn't cost much more to fry other things, just sayin'
Tatter Tots
Onion rings
Pickles
Chicken
Beer Batter Fish
Corn
Hush puppies
Bananas
Potato wedges
Bacon
Corn dogs
Mozzarella sticks
Chicken wings - hot wings
Egg Rolls
Mushrooms
You get the the idea... _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Gwen,
As you might already know, due to time constraints we are also trailering to HM.
Let us know what we might bring/help with/add to the HM V weekend.
You name it.

Marion I can't begin to express my feelings about the situation. I have lost family to that nasty cancer crap. A son in '04 and a wife(ex) in '07, and grandparents. Phil is a good man, I wish him peace.
I don't have a lot of pics with him in them, here are a few.
From Lobster I at John & Cathy's:
If Phil had his head up a little more you could see the ear to ear smile he had on his face....
This was the departing day, as Phil, Dave, John, and myself went our seperate ways.
And from HM3:
