How do I get to it please? Done a search and looked at the repair manual which confused the living **** out of me.
Is there an easy (ish) way? I need to clean and lube it as it sticks. The switch is fine and the motor is getting power ok. I know which bit needs the lube just can't get at it.
Thanks. _________________ '93 K1100LTSE, ABS1 in Black 'Connie' |

I took the screen off with those 4 screws or so. IIRC I then loosened from the rear the plastic thats around the gauges and could then open the fairing bit until I could lube them arms. Cannot remember more in detail, I'm afraid. _________________ K1100LT -93 | ex K1100LT/SE -94 |

Removing the center inner panel gives the best acces, but is some work.
It`s mounted with 10 screws, 2 at top on each side, 2 just above the instruments
and 2 at the bottom on each side...you need to remove the radio to get to those
on the left side...the radio is held in place with 3 clips.

You basically have two choices:
1. remove the inner panel(with the radio speakers), or
2. remove the winscreen panel.
Either way, there is a bunch of screws.
To remove the inner panel, you have (as Inge has pointed out) 2 on each side upper, 2 at each bucket(radio and right side) location and 2 above the inst cluster.
To remove only the winscreen mechanism panel, you have the same 4 screws on the upper inside(2 left and 2 right), and the 2 above the inst cluster, but then you remove the 6 on the outside(around the bottom of the widscreen).
You can then lift up and carefully tip out at the top side. You MAY still have some "rain drain" tubes(1 on each side) than run down beside both sides of the headlamp. One of my bikes had them and one didn't.
You will also have the electrical plug at the bottom near the motor assy.
If you are careful, you can tip it out this way and operate the mechanism while lubricating and cleaning. For me it also works better to not have the screen mounted(less weight hanging around out there.
For me I prefer taking the windscreen out as I have other accessories mounted to the inner panel that I don't care to mess with removing or unwiring.
You may possibly be able to just remove all the inner panel screws and just tip the top of the inner panel back to spray your lube in there. _________________ Ride safe.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. As luck would have it, as I was looking at the problem a fellow LT rider pulled up and asked what the problem was. Following a serious spraying with silicone lube the screen now works as it should again. _________________ '93 K1100LTSE, ABS1 in Black 'Connie' |
