I recently picked up a NOS partial OEM retrofit kit for heated grips. I figured at the price I got it for ~$25, it came with a new switch I could use with Symtecs at least plus a few other pieces I could sell to recoup most if not all of the cost. I have been looking into what exactly I am lacking to decide which route to go, and have hit a small issue I could use some help with.

I knew I would need new electro-friendly bars, which my partial kit lacked. Upon inspecting my bike, however, the part number stamped on the center of my bars made me think I might be very close to a complete kit with my big $25 investment. Closer inspection has left me confused though, as I was under the impression the heated grip version of the bars had holes in them, and I see none on mine where I thought I should despite the matching number.

Could any of you tell by looking at these photos if these are standard bars or heated ones? Thanks.

The fiche says the heated grip bars are part # 32712307480. I have this on the top center of my bars...

Here are the bars with grip removed. (all be it not cleaned up for better visibility)

And finally, what appear to be standard bar end weights that screw directly into the threaded bar ends. I was under the impression the retrofit kit used a little adapter or something of the sort to deal with bar ends.

Also, if anyone happens to have a copy of the instructions that come with the kit they could scan, I could use a set to verify what all I am still missing. (From what I have read they won't really be needed, but it would be nice.)

Danke.

That part number looks correct.

Is there an elongated hole in the center of the handlebars, right between where it would be clamped to the bike?

Also, does the kit have slotted inserts that attach the bar ends to the bars?

Nope...and the bar ends are solid once the tapped section ends. Hence my head scratching about the number stamped on them. To top it off, Drake has a set with the other number listed on his parts site as being heated bars.

Unfortunately not. From what I can gather, I'm missing both of those adapters, the left grip, and apparently appropriate bars. (And possibly the mystery wire shown near the top of that image in the fiche.)

Feel free to add anything else I am missing...if I am remembering correctly I have the following bits:

----—-—----------------—-—---—-------
Throttle side wired grip

Dash switch

Intermediate harness to attach switch to factory harness

4 wire plug lead to attach grip wires to the intermediate harness

A bunch of zip ties
——-----—---—--------——--—-----—

I had the same thing with my LT, Solid Bars (as it was a special vehicle model) bought a new set of bars and Hand Grips and switch wasn't cheap, but that was years ago and the amount of times I've used them and been satisfied probably pays off.

I just picked up a left hand switch set with the windscreen button from an R1100RT for my long term plan for adding cruise control. (or short term, simply a garage door opener...hehe)

Anyway, for the going price of the switch alone, I also got the entire left side setup: clutch perch/choke, clutch lever, a clutch cable I can't use (but barrel will work), and the left heated grip I was lacking.

So...despite talking myself out of going the OEM heater route, I am now only lacking the correct bars and "sleeve" bar end adapters for the RS.

I suppose I could just drill the bars I have to make them work, but I am not sure I want to do that. I'm not in a hurry anyway, I just couldn't pass up the deal on the switch/grip. Maybe I'll end up with the complete set gradually at a pace I can actually afford instead of the ~$250 bill to swallow for the kit. I can't swing that at once, especially when every time I work on the bike lately I find something else that needs to be replaced. (as expected for a 18 year old bike that probably sat for a while given the low mileage.)
