Hi, is it possible to replace the O rings between the throttle bodies and the block without removing the airbox etc?
A BMW mechanic has sprayed some starter fluid around there and tells me there is a vacuum leak which causes the idle to be a little rough especially when the engine is not fully warmed up. I was wondering if I removed the tank would I be able to under the 2 bolts on each throttle body and remove and replace these special o rings. Or am I kidding myself? _________________ Ian, owner of:-

Are you sure that one of the rubber "boots" between the TB and the engine block aren't cracked and leaking? _________________ John & Cathy

I'm kind of with John on his line of thinking too.
If the o-rings are in bad enough shape to be leaking the intermediate tubes aren't far behind if they aren't already leaking too.
Back to your original question, I haven't tried it without the airbox removed.
Theoretically I suppose it's possible, but I think it would be a major pain.
Especially when you are trying to reassemble, and fighting everything in your way to get it all lined up and sealed properly.
Yes to remove the airbox top you will have to cut the(one time use) oetiker clamps that are on the hoses. You can buy skinny generic worm type hose clamps that will fit. You can also use the worm type clamps on the bmw fisch that will fit, not ideal, but they can be removed and reused in the future....
You do have to be carefull with the worm screw alignment to not interfere with any of the throttle linkage, but they will fit. _________________ Ride safe.

| I am with them, change the whole "intermediate tubes". Pulling the airbox is relatively easy compared to what you're proposing. |
