Hi,

Just wanted to let you know how neatly a Sony head unit with one of Sony's RM-11 marine remote commander fits onto an LT.

The head unit slots into the standard audio bay, and the marine remote commander replaces the fuel gauge (fits perfectly). I'll either move the gauge later or rely on the reserve light.

Will post some pics as over the weekend when I can get to the bike in daylight.

Cheers

Which model did you get - just in case it's one we can get here?

The remote is a Sony RM-X11M (a marine control unit) and it works through the standard Sony wired interface - so should work with any Sony unit with a wired remote socket (most I think).

I bought the remote from ebay in the US as it was £12 instead of £110 in the uk - i guess you have more demand for boat stuff in the US!

I'll post pictures later.

Cheers

I did the same conversion about three years ago using a sony head unit with usb socket on the face so that i could plug in a memory stick of MP3's so that i don't get any skipping. I used a marine remote commander which i found on e-bay from the states for the same reasons. My remote is quite big though and has a back protusion of about 80mm so would not fit in the fuel guage hole so made a box unit and mounted on the right mirror mounting. I can control all the functions of the stereo without having to access the facia.

Nice - which Sony head unit is that?

All I want is the AUX in so I can connect the iPod.

It's the MEX-BT2900

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/ica-bluetooth-car-stereo/mex-bt2900

However, if i was to do it again i'd probably buy a combined marine controller and head unit from ebay as it's far cheaper:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-SONY-MARINE-BOAT-CD-MP3-AM-FM-PLAYER-WIRED-REMOTE-/220775541291?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item33673f6a2b#ht_3558wt_1141

Alternatively just make sure that your Sony head unit has the headphone-type wired remote socket on the back - which looking at the SOny site most seem to have.

Cheers

The remote you managed to obtain is a lot smaller than the one i purchased, my remote also has a display screen which shows radio station, track title etc which would explain why it's bigger. Nice job on the install though.

Hi Gladders,

I discovered your post on the radio swap, during a terminally boring stint of work.

I have an LT SE as well and want to replace the original radio/cassette which is only capable of picking up Radio Tourettes (BBC R2), but I want to try and retain the original handlebar controls.

Currently I have the speaker outputs hooked up through a Starcom intercom system which works fine. I want to reproduce that with a more capable radio.

I'd appreciate any advice you could offer.

I also note that the one you used is a Bluetooth version, does that meant that you are using your mobile phone with it ? if so how did you handle the voice input ?

All the best,

AKE electronics provide A/D converters for Blaupunkt and Sony to be used with the handlebar control, plug and play.
Did buy one to be used together with a Blaupunkt around 4 years ago.
