Not a noob to this fourm but first post. Rode with the duck once. I have a low mileage K with a peculiar issue. On palomar mtn rd riding hard this weekend and when i stopped at top of hill a stange high pitch noise came from the bike after shutoff. I shrugged it off but it started up sloooowww. Like 30 seconds of starter required and it slowly came to life. Rode to new location close by and a high pitch sound came from bike for 30 plus minutes. I assumed the fan but after a while i opened the gas tank cap and it stopped. Then when returned to parked bike, ignition off entire time, noise had returned. The bike again started slowly. One other time when cold and a bad start the same thing happened. This suggest not a vapor lock. Anyone have any ideas? The bike runs great, I just do not want to ruin my freinds riding day with a stalled bike in the near future. I am guessing an issue with the fuel line in the tank but not checked yet. Any words of wisdom is appreciated.

If this is a new sound for you then it sounds like your vent line is probably plugged up, causing the gas tank to end up in a vacuum condition as you ride and consume fuel.

At the right-rear of the gas tank there are 2 small nipples sticking down. They may have hoses on them, or they may be open, in which case there then should be a small plastic cup directly under them.

One of the nipples goes to the fill cap rain drain hole, the other one goes into the fuel tank near the top side.

Check them both for any blockage/restriction.

Thanks. I have taken the tank off several times. This bike has california emmissions, under the tank is 2 hoses, i guessed which one went where, possibly i got it wrong. Any ideas how to be sure?

Well the hose for the in tank vent will go down into the top of the crankcase block.
The other hose for the rain drain will go down the right sidt frame rail and just hang open.

If you have a piece of stray/extra hose, put it on one of the nipples and blow into it and see where it comes out.

I'd almost bet that the forward nipple should be for the in tank vent and connect to the line to the crankcase.
