Did about 125 miles today after picking it up this morning.

HOLEE #%@#$*&$%$!!! this thing MOVES (and I am successfully keeping it under 4000rpms for the first 500 miles). Might be a bit interesting once I can rev it to redline- 10,500 Shocked Shocked

Smooth & quiet- maybe a bit too quiet. The bazooka muffler might have to get s-canned for a different slip-on. Some pictures from outside the HL cave......

Hey, a sidestand that doesn't have the bike leaning at 45 degrees

Used a K11OG sticker so you guys don't throw me under the bus.

So there you go- the deed is sort-of done, although I have some doubts about whether the RS will sell. There is a slight possibility that it could end up back in my garage- transformed into a K1100S.

OK, lemme' have it, I can take the heat for being a traitor Embarassed

What happens to the number plates in your state when they reach 99,999 bikes?

First- those are temporary cardboard plates- only good for the next 20 days- we use them to take the bike home and a bit more.

Second- we have just over 1,300,000 people in NH. I doubt that even 1% of our population buy bikes.

If it did go over 99,999, they would probably start back at a low number given the short lifespan of a "temp" plate.

Gorgeous Bike John, I'll bet Cathy is excited too.

I'm curious to hear the 1-month write up.

Congratulations!

Please keep sharing your impressions of the bike in the coming weeks

How's the low speed handling?

Thanks everyone.

Sanjiv, low speed maneuvering is really pretty good. I think that the handlebars are a little closer in height/shape to an LT than an RS, so there is better leverage. Slow speed steering is good even with the 190 rear tire. Having the RS for 3 years was good training for keeping a 700# bike upright- overall the weight feels very similar.

The gearing is very high- 6th has the engine turning 2500 rpms at close to 60 mph. Back roads (35-50 mph) will use 2nd/3rd/4th gears. Shifting is very smooth- especially considering it had a total of 3 miles on it when I left the dealer. Clutch operation (hydraulic) is light to medium and linear engagement- it is a wet clutch.

MUCH easier getting it up onto the centerstand Very Happy Seat is pretty flat, footpegs are about the same as an RS.

I do have to admit that the Jap style single control turnsignal switch is a more natural operation. Three years of the 3 switch BMW turnsignal was good for actuation but even recently I had to think about t/s cancel or horn? VERY wimpy horn on the C-14. The bags are slightly larger than the RS.

Just my first impressions after about 125 miles. More to come........

John

Pretty cool. A guy I work with has a 2008 Connie 14 - loves it. He says the fuel economy isn't too bad if you go easy on the throttle. Looks like you're averaging 40.4 mpg so far - bet that goes down after 500 miles!

I agree and don't care what the BMW dealer says.

Vance and Hines makes a slip-on you should check out:

Happy trails!

John,
All good stuff!!!
How's heat management? Seems like they made some changes in the 2010 model. Did you get a great deal on the 2009 or don't value the alleged "improvements" of the 2010?

If I was coming from an unfaired bike I would think it was too warm. But coming from the RS it isn't that bad. Maybe 2/3's as warm- plus there are no hot spots- just a general heat coming off the engine. Someone on the "ZG/GTR fanatics" forum is producing very thick neoprene blocks to seal off some of the heat and I have asked to be on his list. Sounds familiar, huh? But it was an unusually warm day here- high 80's. BTW, the gas tank does not get anywhere near as warm as the RS did.

Anyway- as I get the tires broken in my lean angle confidence is growing. I do like the adjustable windscreen- at its lowest it is similar to the RS but all the way up (electrical mechanism that easily works at 75+) it throws the air just above my helmet shield. The Kaw accessory windshield that is 2-1/2" taller is on its way.

Details to follow.

High 80's? In NH? It was in the low 70's here today and is forecast to be in the 70's /80's for the next week. Thank goodness for spring!

Thanks everyone- it is just about all I wanted.

One glitch though, I cannot get comfortable on the seat- it makes my lower and mid back painful after 15-20 minutes. This is something I have never experienced on any of the previous 7 bikes I've owned.

At first I thought it was the higher-than-an-RS handlebars. But after searching on the "ZG-GTR Fanatics" forum, several others have experienced similar problems. The stock seat is soft and with no definite 'put your butt here' location- nearly impossible to keep my pelvis from rolling forward or backwards

A Sargent seat is now on its way. That should be the fix, but stay tuned......

BTW, until I am comfortable on the C-14, my K11 isn't going anywhere.
