OK, lets get this out of the way up front. I must be an idiot to ask this question, but maybe the 70s did more damage to my brain than I thought. I'm changing all my fluids and am down to changing the coolant. Nothing really technical about this,but....I'm having a problem figuring out how to remove the upper L/H storage (actually stereo) compartment. Got the stereo out, but can't figure out how to remove the metal box/ face plate that houses the stereo in order to get to the last 2 screws! I don't want to force it as it's just cheap plastic. It's probably something simple, but I'm missing it.
Suggestions?

There are 3 "catches". one at the top, one at the left and one at the bottom. The catches are accessed thru small holes, about the size of a 16p nail.

Use a small pocket type screwdriver to release the catches, then the whole assy will be able to come out.
You may have to start with one(bottom) and then the side one, then the top one. Working your way out along the way.

I happen to have my radio cage out of my '97 at the moment. I'll take a pic or two and post them up here shortly.

I ended up basically ripping mine out...a dremel cutter could've been handy. I think there is some 'spring' release that you push as your pulling up, the metal cage inside acts as a latch...and you maybe, pull a piece of it in? to get it to release from outer sleeve. there was a post telling how to do this, if you dont care about the radio(i found it to be useless), i just got it out...have a nice extra storage comparment now...

Here's a shot of the whole bucket without the cage.

A closeup of the forward clip.

A closeup of the left side clip.

Here's one of the cage that comes out. Notice the opening that the clip catches.

Here's a shot of the side clip. Notice that the side clip is not as deep as the top and bottom clips.

Thanks for the pics, that's a great help. I'll get on it in the morning.

Your right, I didn't need to remove the uppers. However, being the first time to do this on this bike, I wanted to make sure nothing got in the way of removing the tank. Call it a lesson learned. Next time the uppers stay in! Embarassed
