I'm gonna trickle charge my battery on my 1995 K1100rs over the winter months, is it just a matter of plugging a charger into the plug on the side of the bike? Anything to watch out for? Can it just stay connected indefinately? _________________ Riding a 1995 Marakesh red K1100rs

Yeah, you need one of those 'battery tenders', the type that will monitor and cycle on and off to keep the battery topped off. _________________

or if you don't have a "smart" charger, plug it into a timer that you can program to turn on for a short period daily.
or better yet do like I do- have multiple bikes in the garage and move the charger to another bike each week. (hint here folks ) _________________ John & Cathy

You can't go wrong for $30 for a Battery Tender Jr., plug and play....
I leave it plugged in all the time, I got 6 years out of my last Yuasa wet cell, I expect even longer from my new Odyessy PC680...
If you get the powerlet adaptor, it plugs right into the BMW powerlet plug.

Yes, & the one on the handlebars. I would ditch the ring tags & fit a plug (+ve centre pin). That way one can use the croc (alligator) clips on a loose or car / Caravan battery too.
Bear in mind that these only give 3 amps max, so ideal for maintenance charge, but to fully restore a 19Ah battery would take 6 hours or 30 hours for an average car battery. Which is why I went for an 8 amp charger. With that, if I found a flattened K battery, there would be enough charge to start engine in 1 1/2 hours.
Yes it can be left indefinitely,
BUT if one or ones missus switches my old Optimate 2 off at the mains whilst still connected to the bike it WILL flatten it quicker than never connecting it in the first place DAMHIK.
