This is the part the service manager, Andy Carroll, from Birmingham BMW, came up with as a temp fix when my oil level window disappeared (see trip report - Las Vegas to Bloomsburg. I think he got it at a Home Depot.

Fits in where the window goes, just make sure and check the tightness while the bike is on the kickstand - so oil doesn't leak out if it pops off. I just kept it hand tight, it did come off once (didn't check it after a cool night) but it did get us from Birmingham to Las Vegas.

I did get a replacement window from Phil Marvin, so I have this part off the bike. But I will keep it in my parts stash on future trips just in case.

On the bike

Steven,

Good temp fix to keep in mind.

BUT.... Phil comes to the rescue...again. He had a couple extra bag hinges for me at HM IV when I christened the new-to-me K-RS.

BTW why on earth does it say "stand clear when in use"? Is that paranoia???

Standard disclaimer. Results from too many ambulance-chasers in the US.

The device is a temporary plug for pressure testing plumbing - so there is some pressure behind it when it's in use. I suppose with enough pressure behind the plug, it could blow out and put an eye out - or something...

What do you use there to pressure test plumbing?
