I was just wondering, I have finally been able to get my top case open (lugs on the handle sheered, I dont suppose anyone has a spare?) Now having ridden out with the case on the rack it seems quite fragile. Can anyone advise me as to how to beef the original up or does a Givi or the like fit the bike and the case? This motorcycle is becoming a labour of love, but you know what, its beginning to pay off.
Happy Days

Which top case are you talking about? 22 liter which looks like a shoe box and mounts on the rear cowl? Or the 35 liter with the rack that sits above the rear cowl with out touching it? _________________ Ron

Hi Ron
Thanks for the reply. I guess that its the larger of the two with the speakers in it I can easily fit a full face helmet into it.
Regards

I have one with a few scratches on it. And the holes in it for the back rest and speakers. Give me a call.

Hi, Ron,
Although Tony might very well like your topcase, the shipping cost across the pond would probably be prohibitive. _________________ Ride Safe,

If he needs the whole case it might cost some but he might just need parts. Then the shipping should not be too bad. _________________ Ron

My topcase has never had a flex issue, but the rack does. I ran a bolt through the side (where the little rubber bumper is) to stiffen it up. Works nice. I also replaced the speaker bit with the backrest from Russell, and added a rack i found on ebay.

Crashbar,
I did much the same, although I used two bolts per side, as I found that the forward brace, bowed the main run of the rack outwards as the box "nodded" forward.
I used washers as spacers between the rack and the cowl . . a bit fiddly but it works. The box still moves but nowhere near as much as it did originally.
I do really like the back rest pad . . cool. That is sooooo much better than the original. Again like you I've removed the speakers from the top box (and fairing), so the lead you can see in the pictures plugged in the bottom is redundant (at the moment . . maybe a sandwich maker . . or an electric Hibachi . . hmm).
Were there different sizes of these top boxes, as I think I could do with a bigger one ? At least one I could get a full face helmet in. _________________ Nick

Hi Nick & Crashbar.
For some reason I have only just picked up your replies. Thank you for going to the trouble of posting the pics. I shall certainly do this mod. Nick, Your seat doesnt look standard. Can you tell me where it came from.
Thanks Guys

Tony, from what I can see of Nick's seat is that it is the factory issued comfort seat. Unless it's been recovered, it appears to have the same pattern to it. _________________ Ride safe.

Tony,
Apologies for not getting back here earlier . . my mate Richard has slapped me round the head . . so here I am . . and I can hear again now
As far as I know the saddle on my bike is the standard fitment for the type. My K is a late version Special Edition, (ABS 2 and stuff) which I believe came with the "comfort saddle" mentioned by Scott, as standard.
What I do know is that the difference in height between the pillion and the pilot, is substantially more than the standard LT seat.
Here are a couple of pictures of my saddle, with and without side panel, there are more on my Photobucket site
http://s571.photobucket.com/albums/ss155/Nickh2203/K1100LT/
which are available for you to have a look at.
All the best _________________ Nick

Hi Nick
Thanks for the reply, I do find my original seat a bit uncomfortable after a while. Regarding the running lamps they are such a safety feature. Can I trouble you for the details ie where to get them from. I am sure that I wont be the only one who is interested. Thanks again.
Regards

Hi Tony,
See ? I am checking . . don't want Richard hitting me again.
The running lights came from Bike Viz,
http://www.bikevis.com/store.html
although they don't seem to do the one's I have anymore, but I have seen exactly the same lights for sale in Halfords. I would say though that I am not totally conviced that they are as effective as I had hoped.
I believe that you can now get a replacement LED bulb which is far brighter than the original 5w sidelight bulb . . that might be a cheaper option to try first. I am looking to see if I can shoehorn an Audi type LED light array into the top of the headlight, but I'm only at the "thinking about it" stage.
Still like Crashbars' back rest . . wondering who Russel is, and whether I can get something like that here in the U.K. . . the search continues.
Hope all this rambling helps . . wonderful stuff this red wine _________________ Nick

Oh yes . .
