|
|
Good Morning from Sussex UK
Exploring the potential of my newly aquired K75RT I find that there is a yellow light that shows up at 7 thousand rpm
It the one below the oil pressure light which I thought was not used?
(Not the yellow fuel warning light which shows in the left hand dial)
Any Ideas
Thanks

This is the warning light for "choke on", it should be a symbol beside it.
If not, it`s a instrument cluster from a 16V.

Others with a 75 may chime in on this but I believe the "poppin" on overrun is s.o.p. for the 75's. Totally normal. _________________ Ride safe.

It`s not choke actually, it`s just rises the idle slightly.
The switch for the warning light is at the rear end of the throttle bodies.

Haven`t worked that much with 75`s (rather seldom model in Norway), so I don`t know that much of whats normal behavior on these ones.
But it can`t hurt to check if your TPS is function properly, you find that one also at the rear end of the throttle bodies.
It should prevent the p&b at overrun, as it`s cutting fuel delivery if rpms is over 2K with closed throttle.
It only senses two positions, full open and full closed throttle. When you start to open the throttle you should hear vague click from it,
just above idle.
You could also measure it to be shure, the switch should be closed at closed throttle.
Take of the connector and measure between the contact in the middle and one of those beside
(don`t remember which one, but I think it`s the one furthest from the bike).
It can be adjusted by loosening the small screws at the sides, and turned in the correct direction.
It also isn`t unusual these switches are filled with water.
3. Throttle position switch.
13. "choke" warning lamp switch.
Good luck!

Factory setting for the TPS leaves you with a situation where you can get extreme backfire on the K75. If you tweak the TPS so it cuts the fuel off just a little sooner, that will usually take care of it.
Had the same problem with my 75 - it backfired like a big truck - finally found someone who knew what to do about it. _________________ Jim

What year is it, does it have ABS?
There are two yellow lights in the earlier clusters, none in the later. The one on the bottom left was I believe only used in the '85 K100RS and it was a low fuel lamp that preceded the red "really low" fuel lamp by about a half gallon. The second yellow lamp is on the right at the bottom left of the four lights, has a graphic with a circle with a tilted line through it, and indicates that your choke (aka more correctly the throttle enrichment) is on. On the ABS bikes the ABS light replaced the bottom left low fuel light, and on the later 2v Kbikes the yellow idle light was just dropped. Interestingly enough, all the plumbing is still there on the later bikes and you can add it with the simple addition of a switch available at your dealer.
Sounds like this is the choke on warning light - does the light go on when you have the engine running and use the choke and go off when you flip the choke off? It could be the switch is malfunctioning, or something is causing it to activate. Or, it could be an issue with the cluster, which begs the question, do you have an original cluster? A lot of these clusters have failed and people have bought used ones from all across the spectrum as they are pretty much plug and play.
The TSP adjustment should fix the backfiring, it is a common problem and that is the solution 99% of the time. Though to be fair, all K75s do that to some degree, just as they will all smoke to some degree if you park them warm on the sidestand. _________________

After reading this, I did find it necessery to dig a bit deeper than in my first answer.
Did use Realoem as trusted source first time, and it did show the switch mounted at all K75RT`s.......
and the tacho (for the symbol) with the same part number as earlier models.
Conclusion: Realoem isn`t always that correct.
A further investigation about this shows that this warning light was dropped just after production start for the 75RT,
so it`s only a few of the early models which got them.

They stopped installing the choke switch in 1991. The wiring is still in the wiring harness though so you can retrofit the switch (you need the spacer ring too) if you care about having a choke light. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

This might just mean the exhaust/silencer gasket needs replacing. |
