'bout time I get off my knees, eh? Today Jen and I traveled a couple hours south and brought home a great new MC lift.
With 3 bikes in the garage, this has become a sorely needed tool.
Might actually look forward to doing MC R&R now. _________________ John & Cathy

I don't have room for a lift. I just sit on an inverted five gallon bucket. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

FD, I did that for the last few years.
But both the other bikes lack a center stand and while I could get front and rear "track" stands- it would still have me on my knees doing oil changes, etc...
and the lift comes with a second rear wheel drop piece with rollers that will help when I have to deal with the Kaw and Duc drive chain maintenance.
My 55 y.o. knees ain't getting any younger. _________________ John & Cathy

Lifts are nice, no doubt. I've used one at a buddy's place in SF.
I'll bet the front wheel clamp on non center stand bikes is nice.
Next time I need to work on one of my bikes I can just pop over to your place, right? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Great looking lift. Compressed air? The days of stoop labor are over.
I'm still with FD, upside down 5gal White Castle pickle bucket.
My brother about 30 miles away has a Harbor Freight lift if I really get desperate. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Very nice lift there Sugar.
My access tools are a fold out camp chair and foam camping pads on the floor for underneath work.
But at least I have a garage to do it in, so I'm lucky.

Exactly. The ZX6R and the Monster are the first two bikes I have ever done work on that do not have center stands. Last year I had to rethink how to change tires!

C'mon over. NOW I've got just about anything needed to service a MC. I still change tires with levers (I'm working on that Gwen). Might even have a used spare tire to get you back home
BobZ- yes, compressed air. My existing "Craftsman" 4hp 15 gallon compressor handled it easily. _________________ John & Cathy

Even better use for the new lift- looks like we have agreed on a very nice present for our son's 21st b'day- the Monster is going to be traded in for an '07 Duc Supersport. RED, of course.
So the Monster needs some minor clean up. The lift is great for this.
and for cleaning/ working on the new SS. _________________ John & Cathy

This thing is GREAT. Today I got more than half of the bike's preseason maintenance done, including checking the valves- while sitting on a stool.
On the lift the valve cover is nearly at eye level.

Carlos,
Thanks. Wish I could take credit for the bike's condition. Just bought it about 5 months ago in this shape.
But the '93 K1100RS I STUPIDLY sold last year was nearly just as clean.
Now if the snow would finally go away......
Have I mentioned that I really like the lift? _________________ John & Cathy

I have issues with how clean the inside of the cylinder head is. I don't think that bike's ever been ridden. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Can't work in a mess. and I have so much stuff packed into that space, if it wasn't kept in order I couldn't fit my pickup in there during the winter

Nice lift, nice garage floor, I'll find mine someday. I checked out Titan lifts per the markings, would you mind sharing what model this is?

Nick,
It is a TITAN SDML-1000D.
It is really solid and comes with (their words)
Front Wheel Vise
Multi-Positional Front Table Extension
Standard Rear Wheel Drop Out
Roller Plate Drop Out
Detachable Ramp
Air Powered Lift Controls
Two Wheeled Dolly (to move it around the garage- very useful.)
Bought it from these guys in southern NH http://www.nhproequip.com/ Picked it up at their place. No sales tax and with no shipping they knocked 70 off the price.
If you are ever in my town, lemme' know- stop by and give your bike a lift.

A great tool John I must have been reading your mind as I have just set about making one today, as I'm just about to take my old girl off the road for a big strip down,(200k) and like you I'm fed up with kneeling and laying on the floor , I'm getting to old for that sort of s**t
Will keep you posted with progress on the lift and the strip down and some pics. _________________ Paul & Gill

Paul,
The lift is one of those things that you don't think is useful. Then once you start using it you wonder how you worked without it for so long.
Thought of building my own, but lack of time convinced me otherwise.
(my original idea was a fixed platform 80cm or so high with a long wide, removable ramp leading up to it. But needing the winter space for my truck convinced me otherwise.)
Good luck with your build.
Thanks for forwarding the Rallye des elephants. Those were some tough riders.

Before you buy, check TCHL out. Better deal, I think. No dolly, though...
http://www.completehydraulic.com/lifts-motorcycle-tcml.html
And for $100 more it comes with side extentions for ATVs, lawnmowers, etc.
http://www.completehydraulic.com/lifts-motorcycle-tcmlw.html
The jack that comes with these lifts is awesome.
