I was just wondering how much you guys over the pond pay for a set of tyres for a K1100LT I have just priced a replacement set ready to fit before I set off on my jaunt over to Europe. I know tyres have gone up in price but for a normal cross ply set (Continentals) I was quoted just over £300. (357$ I am now certain we are being ripped off.

I searched around and came up with a bike accessory shop about 400 miles away from me who will sell me the same tyres as a matched pair for £196.(253$))

They have got my business especially as there is no charge for the shipping. I have a confirmation email advising they will be with me in the morning. The fitting and balancing will cost me a further £10 at a local to me motorcycle workshop.

Different size for a different K bike (2004 K1200GT). Yes tyre prices are up there.

Looks like I will be spending around $500US.

What I cannot understand is, why I can buy a paired set of Bridgestones, Dunlops, Mezellers or Continentals in Radial to fit my R1100RS for around £180 (219$) for the pair

Like everything else, supply vs demand.
The more common the tire size is, ie the more bikes that run the same size tire, the more qty that mfgrs are willing to produce and have available. With more product available on the market, the lower the price to move the product....
That or they are lowering the price to sell it out because it's getting old...

All I know is that it's getting more challenging to get radial tire's in the stock LT sizes. Not impossible, just more challenging. Especially from the same mfgr.

I just got a new front tire for my K11. I have really liked Michelins and they seem to be a premium brand. I paid $311.00 for the front mounted balanced. The tire itself was $230, which is inline with the prices I have seen online.

Michellins are not popular here, especially the radials. Apparently Michellin do not have as thick a carcase as say Metzeller or Continental and seem more prone to flats. I am now running Continentals on my K1100 and Metzeller on my R1100R
