So I got my new to me LT. Runs great and I was able to beat the rain. So I wanted to scope out the radio, but I can not get the compartment open. I read the manual and it says that it should "pop" up. There is no popping.

I tried turning the key both ways, to the left feels like it is disengaged and it is a little looser, but it will not lift and I do not want to break anything. What am I missing?

My new baby, tentatively named "Shadowfax" for now. My daughter said "But its not white." My reply was "It is also NOT a horse".

Looks nice.

Stick your fingers up under the rear of the bucket cover and lift.

The first things I'd do if I got a "new to me" LT:

1 - Install radial tires if it doesn't have them already.

2 - Firm up the handlebars if it hasn't been done already. The stock LT bars are "mushier" than the RS bars because they have more leverage.

I believe the previous owner "demushed" the bars. They feel good, but I do need to take it on a longer ride to be sure. It also has radial tires. Yay!

Now to figure out how to mount a GPS unit.

Well, I've done mine 2 different ways, depending on which GPS you are using.

Haven't picked it up yet, but I am thinking of the Tom Tom rider.

Here's my first LT GPS (and camera) mount:
http://www.kbikeparts.com/classickbikes.com/ckb.tech/0.ckb.tech.files/gpscammount/gps.cam.mount.htm

On my next LT I just put two little bolts through the inner fairing plastic and mounted the GPS on a swivel ball. I put it on the left side for use with the clutch hand. This was easier to do and works fine for me.

I will agree on that one. Mine is 5 yrs old and I get free updates sometimes twice a year. So far it has worked perfectly. The only thing, and this has been since new, the internal battery life is very short if not plugged in. Otherwise fine.

My 1st was a Garmin Street Pilot 2810, used it a couple of years till the BT quit, then upgraded it to a Zumo 550.
This year I splurged a bit and purchased a Zumo XT. I cost me about the same as the 550.

My 2810 and 550 I had hard mounted on the fairing panel where the left side dummy switches are located at.

With the XT I'm still undecided yet on a permanent mount location, and wanting the option to use it with either bike, or vehicle, I used the included Ram mount and attached it to the right bar near the brake mc. I didn't have room on the left bar with the radio control mounted.

I figured out the compartment tops. I am using a FM transmitter in the cigarette lighter to connect my phone to the stereo. Sounds good as well.

Take a look at this solution: http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8895 by Mudbug.

I really liked it and purchased from: http://www.gadgetguy.net

(I have no affiliation with this product or seller)

Have fun,
Jer

Here's how I mounted the GPS on the K11 - also how I'll mount it on the RT and the RTP. Finally gave up on 2006 technology StreetPilot IIIs - time for an update - got a Garmin ZumoXT. The only RAM part I need to buy is the one that bolts to the hole by the choke lever.

http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4490&highlight=gps

There were others on that page, but they got photobucketed...

Gadget Guy is nowhere to be found - neither .com nor .net work. Don't know what happened to Genna. He moved to Northern VA, split with his wife, and disappeared - somewhere west, I think.

He was here on K11 for awhile.

Here's how I have my XT mounted to the LT at the moment:

And also on the RT:

Obviously I still have the 550 mount still on the bike yet, but it will come off eventually...
