Ok, so I already checked off two items of my list.
1. Dropped the bike on its side. (I always do that within two weeks of buying a new, heavy bike I've never owned.) Just a scratch, already fixed.
2. Left the key switch all the way to the left, ran down the battery.
So, anybody got a list of all the other stupid things K11 newbies do before they finally know better? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

They seem to say that there are only 2 kinds of bikes:
Ones that have been 'down'
Ones that will be 'down'
Don't feel bad. Most of us have BTDT.
Don't hesitate to run the rpms up... these 1100's like the sweet spot of the power band which is between 4K to 5K, don't lug them. It also helps keep carbon buildup in check...DAMHIK.. _________________ Ride safe.

If you want to drop a bike in style, I have just the recipe.
Bike was up on the lift to do some maintenance. For some strange and pretty stupid reason I had the side stand deployed. Then I went to roll it back off the lift.
Want to guess what happens when the back wheel drops down on the angled loading ramp and the side stand comes in hard contact with the lift? _________________ John & Cathy

Amateur night. To truly get the most out of dropping your bike be sure to drop it on your foot at a gas station and fracture your foot 1,000+ miles from home.
Something else of note:
Always make sure the seat is properly latched when it's closed. If you don't then the locking rod rides on top of the hook inside the seat lock and will eventually break off the tip of the hook. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'll go get the cigar.
BTW, if you really want an exercise in hearing massive amounts of excuses in 60 seconds or less, try to get parts, accessories or assistance from an official BMW bike dealer in Germany for a 1995 K1100LT. Proof positive excuses are like the rear exit ports on all mammals. We all have one, and they all stink. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

Being in the US, I think I get 50% of my parts from the U.K. _________________ John & Cathy

I've been ordering more parts from the UK than from New England lately - prices are much better - and shipping is about as fast. Saved hundreds of dollars. _________________ Jim

Another Brit parts buyer here. Over the past few years I've bought lots of stuff from Motobins, Motorworks and James Sherlock. (Even though the Sherlock site says they don't ship to the US I tried ordering parts from there and they did.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'm going to stick to the German market for now. There are literally hundreds of ads on ebay-kleinanzeigen.de for K1100 bikes and parts. But yes, the UK has lots of sources too. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.
