Thanks, John. Interesting.
Of course, I wouldn't use any of those on the bikes - especially the R - that one has the long, thin, folding filter...
Wonder how Mahle and Baldwin compare... _________________ Jim

I think to really test filter quality you'd want to benchmark them for a few thousand miles and then test the oil for quantity and size of particulate matter.
By the way, I recently decided to change the oil regimen for my Ks. Instead of running Mobil 1 15/50 I run a 50/50 mix of Mobil 1 15/50 and Mobil 1 High Mileage 10/40. The high mileage oil has conditioners in it for rubber seals so my hope is that it will keep the rear main and water pump seals healthier. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I agree. But this guy was just comparing construction.
I have read several bad things about Fram filters over the past few years and judging how those are constructed, I can see why.
So the process of elimination could be to "say no" to crappy construction filters then find evaluations of the ones that pass that phase. _________________ John & Cathy

Not that I am a big fan of Fram oil filters since most are complete crap but Fram does make several grades of filter and their Xtended Guard filters have much better construction/media and are pretty well regarded.
That said, the Xtended Guard filters have that rubber crap on the exterior for spinning on by hand and I'd never use a filter like that in a K bike's submerged oil filter system for fear that it might come off and really mess things up.
Several companies these days have several grades of filter so comparing filters just by brand might not give one the whole picture. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
