Hi All,

Excited about my new purchase. Does anyone know what distinguishes a standard '97 K11LT from an SE or Highline?

Thanks,
Jer

In the model years prior to '97, when you purchased an LT you got everything on it.....there was only 1 version.

Since '97 was to be the last production year sold in the US market, BMW started selling the LT in multiple variations. (trying to use up parts without making anymore new than necessary for the euro market)

Basically the 'base' version was just that, no radio, no heated grips, black side cases....
Higher end versions then added options as well as paint matched cases.
The SE version I believe had more chromed parts and a special paint scheme.

Mechanically all versions after '94 are the same. Model year '93 had some hold over designs from the K1004V like ABS1 brakes and an ignition amplifier module.
Versions prior to '97 also had the windscreen switch on the dash pad and not the left handlebar by the hi/low switch.

I don't know all of the details but I think some SEs had:

Silver hand levers

Two color paint jobs

Pin stripes

Rear speakers

Maybe a non-black or comfort seat

Some of the really early K1100LTs also had K100RS4V peg plates.

Note: The Pine Green 93 LTs are the fastest ones. Very Happy

SE has Special Edition printed either on the speedometer or odometer - can't look right now.

Also polished metal forks with clear coat - but not sure if that's an SE thing or a Highline thing.

Jim:

Some LTs came with silver forks? I thought that was just some of the black/silver RS bikes.

This statement, I think, best explains the confusion.

Awesome insight by everyone.

Thanks,
Jer

Drake - as far as I know, the 97's came with polished metal forks. I think mine is all original - 2 tone paint, pinstripes, rear speakers, unpainted clutch and brake levers, polished forks with clear coat, matching luggage cases, etc. Pretty sure the pics I've seen of others have polished forks.

There are at least a few more guys on the forum that have the same bike.

Didn't the SE and Highline also have the weird color windshield plate? The metal plate that the mechanism mounts to? Most of the early bikes were a black color, but the SE's had a bronze color or something? Was I dreaming that?

The windshield carrier (which is plastic) comes in four colors in the parts catalog:
Schwarz
Perlanthrazit
Fjordgrau
Silber
