Thanks thats what I thought it was.

Yes I did notice a very slight step where the front timing cover meets the camshaft cover at the top and bottom. On the order of .2mm or so, not a lot to worry about but did put some silicone gasket there and at the half koon inserts and seems to be holding so far.

Did not manage to get the front cover off but have cleaned the whole lower engine area so can at least now monitor where if any further leaks come from (fingers crossed I got them)

I have just had the cover off my 2nd K75 which is essentially the same size and fitting so you should not have any difficulty in removing it. Have you actually removed all of the socket head screws. There are 2-3 which at casual glance are not all that obvious. I am also assuming you also removed the Hall sensor cover and the oil and water pump cover.

As for the point of the oil leak, you have found the 'step' and that is roughly the same as my two K75's and before that my K1100LT.

How BMW managed to get this so inaccurate I don't know. It is sloppy engineering that is so easily corrected during manufacture.

hi grunter, no i did not end up removing the front chain cover.

i had a new rocker/camshaft gasket cover on hand and ended up that it took a lot longer to clean off old gasket maker and prep for new install than i planned so will monitor if there is a continuing leak and if so will attack the front cover and sump in one shot.

at this point have spent a LOT more time with it on the center stand than on her own 2 wheel so want to do some riding haha!

still need to install the new fuel pump and spark plug leads (thanks euromotoelectric for these!) and i also grabbed 11x of the small rubber grommets that seal around the camshaft cover bolts as the old ones had gasket maker all over them and not the prettiest. (thanks ebay, $3.45 each)

edit; sorry grunter, did not have any technical issues getting the cover off, just time didnt allow me as started this all saturday afternoon and no twilight evenings here in southern florida to keep going.

Yea new stock from eBay.

Yes will check out what torque is needed, suspect one is already threaded... Might try get a helicoil in there soon...

just back from the first proper test ride after completing the service works and bike is so much more enjoyable to ride! turn in is lighter, engine running cooler and no more fuel smell in the cockpit! having not installed the new fuel pump this can only be from the new filler gasket and the return hose extension. consumption still a tad high so hopefully will come down with new, non leaking fuel pump.

cant wait to keep enjoying it!
